SHANNON DAWN ELKE BAKEMAN

October 2, 1965 – July 10, 2023

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our mother, grandmother, and friend Shannon Dawn Elke Bakeman on July 10th, 2023, at the age of 57.

Shannon was predeceased by her daughter, Stefanie David; her mother, June Elke; and her father, Don Elke. We find immense comfort in their reunion.

Shannon is survived by her son, Ashten Bakeman (Heather Bakeman); her daughter, Emilee Bakeman (Mark Maclaren); her son-in-law, Jeff Williams (Cassie Campbell); her granddaughters Lily and Mary Williams; her ex-husband, Michael Bakeman; and her brother, Trent Elke (Anita Elke); as well as by numerous other family members and friends. We will all miss her greatly.

She was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and made her life here, starting a family and building her career at Cangene, where she later retired due to her ongoing battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Shannon’s family was everything to her, and no one in the world has ever loved their children as much as Shannon. To know Shannon was to love her and to know love; and to be loved by her made you one of the luckiest people alive.

She had passions for many things, in particular movies, and we hope that every time you turn on the TV and watch Jurassic Park, Jaws, Twister, Independence Day, or Sex and the City, you will think of her and remember the joy these stories brought to her.

There will be a commemoration and celebration of her life at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg (603 Wellington Crescent) on Thursday, July 27th, 2023, at 2 pm. If you are attending, please come dressed in colour to reflect Shannon’s bright personality.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tails of Freedom Rescue in Shannon’s honour.
