ALAN JOHN BARR

April 5, 1954 – November 9, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce that Alan John Barr passed away on November 9, 2022 in Winnipeg at his long-time residence at the age of 68 years.

Alan is survived by his siblings, Wayne, Sharon, Don, John, and Walter; and predeceased by his son Kenny.

Alan was a great car enthusiast whether driving his Red 1979 Nova or his Pontiac Convertible his brother's remember all the trouble he got into with them. But also all of the pride he showed with the cars he owned. Walter remembers how proud he was to take him for a spin as a young teenager the love cars was something Walter, Wayne and Alan all shared deeply.

He spent years with his own painting company decks fences apartment buildings with his brother Lloyd and caretaking apartments with other friends Greg Bell and close friends Allison and all the Brayshaws.

He spent the last 30 years living a solid disciplined life overcoming his heavy addiction of smoking with the guidance of his brother Don. This gave him the strength and pride of finally living a financially free life in his residence for the last 30 years

He had a great enduring love for all of his family accepting things as they rolled and even for his ex partner Rosie and step son Joey one of his proudest experiences of his life keeping them in his memory picture framed on his wall and his heart.

He often spoke of Jimmy and his other friends Dean Quinn and Glenda have all spoken to his sweet demeanour and spent his last years in mutual friendship with many of the tenants.

Alan was a man aquainted with grief and sorrow.. although he loved his son Kenny dearly he saw Kenny passing away a few years before. This brought him great sadness ... he also outlived his brothers Jim, Lloyd and his niece Cheryl and mom Louise and step-dad Nick ...

Alan spent his last decades enjoying his close relationship with his brother Don and his kids Jennifer and Derek hanging out in their back yard and often had his brother Walter cranking up the tunes out in the back yard while waiving to their neighbors Rolly and Don like they were his own ...

He was a late bloomer often excited about the the technology of cell phones his audio systems and TV remotes and hanging out in Don's basement where he renovated and "painted for discounts" he would always mention ...while playing on Dons computer...

As we write this Don mentioned to Walter one of his favorite lines

Hey Don does your face hurt?

No Alan why ?

Cause it's killing me Alan would say and end with a deep hearty laugh!

That was Alan

If you have any fun memories of a man that laughed alot but stayed quietly please celebrate his life here and post your memories...

Love you Brother !

Love Don and Walter Barr

It is with tears in my eyes that I write this. Tears of joy and tears of sorrow. Al was more than a friend to me he was like a brother. Actually we came close to being brothers-in-laws as I had made the mistake of introducing him to my sister and they dated for over a year. We had some great times at the city center Hotel and was often go to some of the toughest and roughest bars in the city. Talking Occidental and the like as we were dare each other to find the worst places we could. And although Al was not particularly big or strong nobody ever bothered us because he would walk in with a sense of pride. That was how he lived his life. Proud of the small things and letting the bigger things slip off him like water off a duck. I don't know how his loving wife Rosie put up with us.. there's so many stories I could tell about Al but I don't think they would let us print them. I'll be glad to share some with anyone who would like to know My condolences to the entire Barr Boys maybe you and Joanne are halfway between heaven. and Hell smoking a joint and watching in life. Love you brother, see you soon. RIP!

😁as I write this tears are flowing. Tears of sadness and tears of joy. Alan was like a brother to me and almost became my brother-in-law when he dated my sister for over a year. Ellen was very special in ways that no one could see. We would go to some of the toughest roughest bars in the city and no one would bother us for some reason. Al is not a fighter nor particularly strong but he did have a certain way of carrying himself that showed he was not afraid of anyone. We had so much fun together Unfortunately most of the fun we had is unfit to be published. I don't know how his loving wife Rosie put up with us. My condolences to her and all of my honorary brothers The Barr Boys. And it is true he loved cars but I told him many times first comes the driver's license then the car! He would just laugh and say no one's going to catch me. I can go on forever but my tears are now drying up so it's a good time to stop. Love you brother and say hi to my sister wherever you guys ended up!

I remember visiting with uncle Al in the backyard in the summers, joking around with my dad. When not making jokes, he could usually be found petting my dad's dog, Tucker (uncle Al was Tucker's favourite afterall!).  We will miss uncle Al's soft-spoken and fun-loving demeanor. Rest in peace. Love, Jenn ❤

The bond between siblings is tremendous and I can't imagine the pain you are all feeling.  My heart truly aches for you. I remember those back yard gatherings at Don's place and will forever remember his quiet nature. My deepest condolences go out to you and the entire Barr family.
