Adeline Barrett
ADELINE W. BARRETT
(née DANYLCHUK)
January 7, 1947 - March 18, 2017
Adeline Barrett, the beloved wife of Don Barrett, passed away on March 18, 2017 at the Grace General Hospital at the young age of 70 years.
She is survived by her husband Don; daughters Carolyn Brooker (Eric) and Andrea; grandchildren Justin (Phoenix), Jacelyn and Brendan; sister Tracey Roberts and brother David Danylchuk (Gayle Sheridan). She is also survived by an extensive extended family including her beloved sisters-in-law and their families, including many nieces and nephews, as well as all their children.
Adeline was a blessing to anyone who knew her. She warmed the hearts of everyone around her and made everyone she knew feel as though they were a part of her family. Many of those who knew her felt that she was a part of their own family as well. Many of her children’s friends, and even her grandchildren’s friends felt close enough to her to call her ‘mom’ or ‘Grandma” anytime they were around her, and she accepted it as if it was meant to be and it warmed her heart to be involved in their lives.
Anyone who knew her, knew that the most important part of her world was her family and spending every waking moment with her grandchildren and children was what made her happiest. A day didn’t go by that she didn’t at least talk to them even if it was to just get a quick moment to hear about their day.
Adeline was diagnosed with cancer in February 2017. She took the diagnosis with courage and was prepared to fight the battle as best as she could. Unfortunately, the disease overtook her body faster than what was expected and the chance to attempt the fight was taken away too quickly. She was hospitalized a short time ago, and despite the attempts by the hospital staff to bring her through this tough time, she succumbed to the disease surrounded by her family on March 18, 2017. She will be sadly missed.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Grace General Hospital for the care that Adeline received during the short period that she was in their care. All that was done for Adeline and her family helped them through the hardest time in their lives. Also, a sincere, “thank you” to the amazing family and friends who came out to support the family during a most difficult time.
Adeline’s life was celebrated from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Friday March 24, 2017 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road. There was a brief program at 2:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions to CancerCare Manitoba would be greatly appreciated by the family.
