VELDA MARIE BARRON
(née Guillas)
October 16, 1953 – January 3, 2026
Velda Marie Barron (née Guillas) passed away on January 3rd 2026 at the age of 72 at the Neepawa Regional Health Centre with her family by her side.
She is survived by her daughters, Tanya Hjelmeland (Robert Pilloud) of Regina, SK, and Tammy (Clifford) Bruyere of Thunder Bay, ON.; sons, Michael (Tiffany) Barron of Souris MB, and Mitchell (Cornelia) Barron of Switzerland; siblings, Danny (Kathleen), Yves (Sylvia), Jackie Spicer, Chris (Krissy), Valerie Poole, brother-in-law Bob Hockin; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, and dear friends Rene Page and Roz Evason. She was predeceased by her parents, Alban and Dorothy; her sister Diane; and her grandson Andrew.
Velda and her twin Valerie were born in Ste. Rose du lac, MB on Oct 16, 1953, and grew up in Neepawa. She graduated from NACI and worked numerous jobs in Neepawa at East View Lodge, Neepawa Hospital, Neepawa Legion and Schwans Foods. Velda took great pride in her work and made fast friends of any co-workers she met along the way. She later moved to Brandon where she managed a multi-unit apartment complex until retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, her specialty was producing blankets upon request with a person’s favorite team logo or other custom images. Velda made literally hundreds of these blankets. Other interests included watching curling, gardening, shopping and playing her favorite dice game. No visit was complete until you played three games of dice, and a record book was kept recording who triumphed.
Velda met her diagnosis of lung cancer head on and seldom complained. She looked forward to company, always had coffee on and a treat ready. Then a dice game could commence, or you could just sit and visit. She loved everyone’s stories but always had the best ones herself, and she never forgot a detail.
Velda’s family would like to thank all who helped in her cancer journey, Palliative Care in both Brandon and Neepawa and especially the wonderful nurses and aides that were so caring in her last days.

Sending sincere condolences on the loss of Velda. She was truly one of a kind. At my request she crocheted a blanked for Scott Page for his POEMS Syndrome one Christmas a few years ago. It is something I cherish since Scott passed as it is one of a kind and I use it often. I will miss playing dice with her Rene and Roz. It was always a pleasure to visit with her. May she rest in peace.
