It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Lilli Barthels, at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her loving husband Wolfgang; and by her parents, Henry and Pauline Sprenger.

Lilli leaves to mourn her children: Gordon (Diana), Robert (Aline), Carolyn (Tony), Vivian (Bob), and Stepdaughter Dora (Ken); her sister Ilse; her brother Edmund (Sandy); as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom were her pride and joy.

Lilli was a devoted Christian whose faith shaped every chapter of her life. She was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Selkirk for more than fifty years, participating fully until her health no longer allowed her to attend. Her commitment to her church community was steady, sincere, and deeply felt.

Family was at the centre of everything Lilli did. She took great pride in raising her children and in the home, she built with them — a home defined by care, structure, and tradition. She was a dedicated caregiver to her aging parents, offering them the same patience and devotion she later extended to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lilli found joy in the simple, beautiful parts of life. Her garden was one of her greatest pleasures, and she tended her flowers with the same attention she gave to her family. She kept traditions alive through family meals, barbecues, and gatherings that brought everyone together. These moments — shared food, shared time, shared stories — were her way of keeping the family connected.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Irene Baron Eden Centre, who provided Lilli with such wonderful care in her final years. Thanks, are also extended to the doctors and staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care for their support and compassion.

A special thank you to Christa and Heinz Richter for their never ending care, friendship, and the steady presence they offered throughout the years.

A family celebration of Lilli’s life will be held at a later date.
