DOROTHY MARGARET BAUCH
(née Juenke)
December 7, 1933 – July 11, 2020
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dorothy Margaret Bauch, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 86 years.
She is survived by her daughters Bev Barker (Bob Jesson), Karen McClure and Donna Lagasse; son-in-law Walter Warywoda (Linda), as well as former sons-in-law Rick Barker (Carmen) and Lory Lagasse.
Dorothy will also be missed by her grandchildren Graham Barker (Kendra), Jessica McClure (Ryan Roussin), Jeffrey McClure, Mathew Lagasse and David Lagasse; great-grandchildren Nicalis and Alexzander Roussin and Avery and Owen Barker; siblings Alfred (Sue), Armand and Linda; sisters-in-law Marion and Elma, along with numerous extended relatives and friends.
She is predeceased by her daughter Wendy Warywoda; parents Arthur & Dilly (née Betker); siblings Lawrence, Eddie, Irene Flett, Clifford, Roslie, Alan and Herbie; sister-in-law Mary Juenke; brother-in-law Kelly Flett; son-in-law Dan McClure and ex-husband Karl “Bill” Bauch.
Mom was born in Golden Bay, Manitoba, she was the oldest of 11 children. Growing up, the family moved between Molson & Cloverleaf numerous times throughout the years, eventually settling in Seddon’s Corner (Beausejour).
In 1949 Mom moved to Winnipeg and started to work at a little corner restaurant in the North End as a waitress. She moved to Sudbury, Ontario in July of 1952 after marrying Karl “Bill”. In 1953 Mom and Dad came back for her sister Linda as Grandma had just passed away. Bev was born in 1954. They all moved to Winnipeg’s North End in 1958. Shortly after, Wendy arrived in 1959 followed by Karen in 1960. In 1963, after Mom’s dad passed away, the family moved into Grandpa’s home on Selkirk Ave to take care of Clifford, Armand & Linda for the next two years. Donna, the fourth daughter, arrived in 1966.
The family stayed in the North End until 1969 and then moved to Transcona. In 1984, Mom moved to the North Kildonan area. She moved a few times, but her memories are from the apartment blocks of 1100 and 1080 Henderson where she stayed until 2019. Donwood Manor would become her new home.
Mom had numerous jobs throughout her life including Nutty Club, Golden Restaurant, Eaton’s Mail order, Avon, and Ludwick’s catering. She had a long career at Great West Life in the cafeteria.
Mom met some wonderful people in her life, far too many to mention. From her travel days to a casino in the states or just in Manitoba, to her weekly schedule at her block for crafts, Bingo, exercises, and shuffleboard, Mom was always on the go!!
She would often ask, “How can anyone say they are bored during retirement, I have too many things to do!”
As the years went by, Mom would often tell people to travel while they can, because the time will come when the legs don’t want to move anymore.
Mom always appreciated her time and would fill the day as much as possible by knitting or crocheting for future craft sales which she enjoyed participating in. She also enjoyed going to garage sales just so she could look for another cookbook or more wool. Often Mom would buy some type of gadget and tell us, “My Mom/Dad used this on the farm” and the girls would have to guess what the item was, Mom would get a thrill if she could stump us.
Anyone who knew Dorothy will remember her hard work ethic, amazing smile and caring nature. Mom truly appreciated anyone who helped her. She was always trying to sneak money in a pocket or purse for a favor received. When that failed, she’d offer a homemade item such as a knitted dishcloth.
She was often called upon to make baby blankets and afghans or slippers. Mom’s girls have a beautiful heirloom crocheted tablecloth, which will be cherished and loved by future generations.
The daughters would like to thank the home care workers for years of helping Mom. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Selkirk General, Seven Oaks and St. Boniface hospitals for their care and attention during her final days.
Mom would rather have had donations in her memory than flowers. In lieu of flowers, any donations to a local foodbank of your choice are greatly appreciated.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, the family would like to encourage all of Dorothy’s friends and relatives to share their personal stories, photos, and memories of her by making use of the comment section on this page, all are greatly appreciated!
