HILDEGARD BAUER

(née Fehlauer)

August 15, 1942 – January 25, 2026

Hildegard Bauer (née Fehlauer), age 83, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Weissenkrug, Germany, Hilde started her journey to Winnipeg when she was a young woman at the age of 22.

Hilde and her husband Egon enjoyed going to the German Club and to the Schutzhund Dog Club.

Hilde worked as a baker, seamstress, and raised tropical fish for local pet stores. Her favourite job was working as a train attendant for the railway in Germany.

Hobbies included growing tomatoes, cucumbers, raspberries, feeding the birds and watching movies. She loved popcorn, good comedy and had a boisterous laugh and a good knee-slapping.

She is predeceased by her husband, Egon, and survived by her three sons, Michael, Matthias (Michelle) and Klaus (Heidi). Oma also leaves behind grandchildren, Morgan and Madison (Matthias) and Stuart and Kendra (Klaus).

Acknowledged by the family to be the world’s best cook. Family gatherings were an incredible feast. Her delicious German dishes and baked goods were made with love.

Hilde now has time to rest and be at peace with her beloved German Shepherds.

Special thanks to the amazing team in 3 East at Riverview Health Centre. They treated Hilde with compassion, dignity and love. You will always be remembered.

I am so beyond lucky to have had Hilde as my Oma. She was a an incredible woman, from her start in Germany to her journey as an amazing mom and later Oma. She was always thinking of others, whether by sharing her baking, cooking you a meal, or sharing her garden-grown goodies. Oma was so thoughtful, she was even sure to feed the (very spoiled) squirrel and neighbourhood birds. I'm honoured to have had the experience to help take care of Oma in her last few weeks as she spend so much of her life caring for others. She will be missed but is still so loved by all of us lucky enough to know her. 🤍 i love you Oma 🕊️(P.S. have fun with all the dogs waiting for you 🐾)

Dear Mike, the world has lost a truly amazing lady.. I will always remember pancakes in the family kitchen and how your mom would never miss an opportunity to engage in good conversation. Your mom was an angel here on earth. Rest in peace Mrs. Bauer. Boyd

Oma was such a vibrant ,strong and unique woman all through her life and an incredible role model for her children and grandchildren. She dealt with whatever life gave to her with determination and a great sense of humor. She out so much love and care into preparing food for her family and really did prepare the best Christams dinner ever!! I feel so blessed to have known and loved her and am grateful she is at peace now.

Matt and Michelle, and family, we are so sorry for your loss. We were recipients of her fabulous Christmas baking for many years - what a treat!! Hilde was young at heart and a lot of fun. We know she will be missed by all.

Oma was hands down the best cook in the world. Everyone says that about their grandma, but Hilde was not just another grandma. She was Oma. One of a kind, stylish, hilarious. Yahtzee and cherry brandy on Christmas Eve, along with the most epic meal that we all waited all year for. And Still rocking leather pants, well into her 70s. Thank you for bringing us all into the world, Oma. I hope we do you proud ! Also, I pulled a card for her. I know she is a dog person, but I got the Phoenix. Very first line says "freedom from suffering and past karma, reincarnation" 💜💙 rest easy, Hilde. You are so so so loved. -Mo
