BRENDA KATHLEEN BERGERON

(née Gair)

May 13, 1958 – September 4, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our loving wife, mother, and nana Brenda, on Thursday September 4, 2025, at the age of 67 years after an eight-year battle with cancer.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 45 years, Réal; Her children Joanne (Ryan) Daigneault and Jeffrey (Sarah); also the joys of her life, her grandchildren, Emily, Juliette, William, Hayley, and Brandon; siblings Sheila Gair and Wayne (Janice) Gair; mother-in-law Jeannette Bergeron, along with many in-laws and nieces and nephews. Brenda was pre-deceased by her parents Roy and Kay Gair, father-in-law George Bergeron, and brother-in-law’s Normand Bergeron and Wayne Rogers.

Brenda was born and raised in Winnipeg, spending the majority of her life living in Crestview where she also raised her own family. She was the oldest of 3 siblings and spent a lot time with her cousins. Whether it was camping, spending time at cabins, or hanging out in the family pools.

Brenda met Réal at Georgies bar in autumn of 1977. Three years later they married on July 4, 1980. Brenda and Réal began their married life living in St. Francois-Xavier but soon after relocated to Crestview where they would begin their family in 1985 with the birth of their daughter, Joanne. Three years later they welcomed their son, Jeffrey. Brenda worked part-time at Ness Safeway as a cashier while raising her family and was often found volunteering during hot lunches and field trips while her children were young. Brenda was very close with her own mom and only lived a few minutes away. Even though they were only a few minutes away they would still talk regularly on the phone about anything and everything. When her children were teenagers, Brenda began working for the St. James-Assiniboia School division as an administrative assistant. She worked at various schools, including Buchanan, Hedges, Westwood, and John Taylor. She loved working with the staff and students in each building and felt proud to work in a few schools that she once attended.

After losing her own mother at a young age, Brenda became the rock and leader of our family. She would often be the host of all family dinners and celebrations. She loved to cook for her family and had many special dishes that she had to include for everyone.

Brenda’s greatest joys were her five grandchildren. She loved watching them all run, laugh, and be silly at family dinners. She would be there to help when a grandchild was ill and often would attend any appointment to lend a hand. All grandkids were Nana’s assistants handing out desserts after each family dinner. She was so proud of each of them.

Brenda adored animals and had multiple cats and dogs throughout her life. We are certain she was greeted by many wagging tails waiting for her.

When Brenda’s cancer returned, she was ready for a battle to get as much time with her family as she could. Unfortunately, that was not to be the case.

The family wish to thank the nurses and doctors in the ICU at the Grace Hospital for their kindness and care, particularly Chelsea who was with us as we said goodbye to our rock. We also wish to thank Dr. Erin Dean and her staff at Cancer Care for all that they did to help and support over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Brenda’s memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.

“I’ll love you forever.

I’ll like you for always.

As long as I’m living,

My mommy you’ll be”

-Robert Munsch

A celebration of their life will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church).

Brenda’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I became Brenda's hairdresser back in 2010 I believe. Incredibly grateful for the friendship that grew over the years. Always so warm, kind and supportive. I always looked forward to her appointments and the opportunity to chat and catch up. Truly going to miss those moments with her. My love and prayers to her entire family who she loved beyond measure. The love she had for you all was very evident in the moments she shared with me.

Brenda's recent passing was a shock to say the least. She was such a fighter during her battles with cancer. I worked for many years with Brenda at Safeway. She was always calm, happy and ready to work her shifts. After leaving Safeway I would bump into her and always enjoyed the friendly conversations. Sending my sympathies to her entire family.

I offer my condolences for the loss of Brenda to Réal and the whole Bergeron/Gair families. On behalf of my Rita Bergeron and Léon Fontaine siblings I will be attending the celebration of life thursday and share the grief and loss that Réal and family are enduring.

It was pleasant to meet Brenda and Réal at Uncle Guy Bergeron's memorial gathering of Fontaines this summer.

As a first cousin with Réal, our family has been close to all our Bergeron relatives in various ways. As family geneologist I invite you to visit our family webpage to find out more about Réal's relatives.

Our deepest condolences to Brenda's family. This news was so very sad to hear.😢

I first met Brenda when we worked together at Safeway. We had many fun times together at work and Christmas parties and events for the kids!! Brenda was a loyal Safeway customer. I would often bump into her at Safeway many years after she stopped working there and it was always great to chat with her!!

I also remember a few good laughs that we shared while she was working at JT. When my youngest son Cole started school at JT I was so surprised the first time I ran into her. I immediately felt more comfortable for Cole because she was there!! Cole was in the special program and in a wheelchair. Quite often I would get an automated message from the school saying that Cole was absent from a certain class.. I would call the school back and ask for Brenda if she didn't answer the phone and I would tell her about the call and ask her, 'well where do you think he could be'? She would laugh and say some funny remark, like I guess he's skipping?! Then I would say well you better tell his EA that I didn't give either of them permission to miss class !! We had many chuckles!! 🤭

Brenda was a good person down to her core!! I hope that her family will find great comfort in the days and years ahead with the wonderful memories that they share!!

Hugs to you all !!😢💞💛

Brenda and I met when the Gair family moved to Doran Bay. We were both 10 years old. That was 57 years ago. I spent so much time at the Gair home that it became a 2nd home to me. Brenda's mom always made me feel welcome and like I was part of the family. We always celebrated our birthdays together...Brenda was May 13th and I was May 18th. Many times we would climb into Brenda's car and head to the A&W drive inn on Portage Ave. I always looked forward to our breakfast dates and will miss them terribly.. Thank you for all the years of friendship. Love Debbie

Brenda was one of my cousins I grew up with. Activities and family gatherings were always on the agenda. Not only did Brenda help teach me to drive, but I was a bridesmaid in her wedding and we also worked together at Safeway. We will all miss her kind soul and grateful for all our years of fun times. We know her spirit will keep joining us at our cousin’s lunches.

My condolences to all of you. I've known Brenda since we were kids. It didn't matter if she was working at Safeway on Ness or at John Taylor Collegiate, she always had her wonderful smile and her caring voice to greet you. She will be missed by all who knew her.

I will always remember the great times we all had together camping, beaches, and backyard parties. The dinners together for the holidays and special occasions were such fun with everyone. I enjoyed our monthly phone conversations for many years, so much laughing. Will miss you so very much.

My heartfelt condolences to the family.. Brenda was such a memorable part of my younger years, as my early school years' secretary. I had the pleasure of having her apart of my life for quite a number of years and she was always putting others first and loved everyone so deeply. Family get togethers will always remain a core memory of mine. She will be dearly missed.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Brenda's passing. Seems like only yesterday when I spent a large part of my childhood over at the Gair's house on Doran Bay. Some of my strongest memories were the trips to A&W drive in in Brenda's Rambler station wagon, litters of puppies and kittens, sleepovers and trips to the cabin, as well as Brenda's love of Lighthouse and Donny Osmond.

We are so sorry for your loss, too soon. May these memories and so many more give your family comfort.

Our deepest condolences to the family. Brenda's kindness and warmth touched our lives in many ways. She was always caring, watching out for our kids at school and welcoming us all at various family events. I was especially grateful for her kindness and understanding during my own cancer journey. She will be remembered with love. A donation to Cancer Care has been made in her memory.

So sorry for your loss to all her family.

Some of the time spent with cousins was at one cabin or another. While playing Hide and go Seek and using a towel on a clothes line, Brenda came from one direction, I came from the other direction and got knocked on the ground resulting in a fractured elbow. I always said Brenda broke my arm but really it was the rock I landed on that did the damage.

My lovely, kind and beautiful niece will be missed by every one. There will never be another one as good as her.
