BEVERLY EILEEN BERZUK

(née McLean)

June 25, 1946 – November 16, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Beverly Berzuk. Bev was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she brought light and joy to every room she entered. Her charm, humour, sense of adventure, and impeccable taste made her truly one of a kind.

Born in Winnipeg, Beverly was predeceased by her parents, Eileen and Norman “Bunt” McLean. The eldest of three daughters, she grew up in East Kildonan on Kimberly Avenue. Beverly is lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend, Jamie; her three sons, Cal (Kelli), Ryan (Megan), and Jason (Melyssa); and her five treasured grandchildren, James, Cassidy, Doris, Thurston, and Perrie. She is also survived by her sister Linda (Rod) and her lifelong friend and youngest sister, Patti (Terry).

Throughout her adult life, Beverly accompanied Jamie’s career across several moves between Northwestern Ontario and Winnipeg. With each relocation, she adapted her own professional path—working with the Province of Manitoba, the Ontario Provincial Police, and ultimately settling in Winnipeg as the assistant to the Deputy Minister of the Manitoba Securities Commission. No matter how short the stay, Bev created a warm and welcoming home for their boys, navigating new schools and hockey schedules while building a community of friends everywhere they landed. She had a gift for making each home neat, organized, and filled with love and laughter.

Beverly carried herself with a special warmth and elegance. While quiet, people were naturally drawn to her unmistakable presence; she had a way of making others feel instantly at ease with her wit and charm. She was always eager to lend a hand and found great purpose in taking care of her loved ones. Bev was constantly creating beautiful things, working on a project, or planning an event. Her standards were impossibly high, with many perfectly delicious baked goods tossed in the trash in her pursuit of excellence.

Her hospitality was legendary. Beverly’s red velvet cake became a signature delight—so delicious that friends insisted she should open a bakery, and so extraordinary that no store-bought version ever compared. In true Bev fashion, there always seemed to be one waiting in her kitchen when you arrived. She took great joy in hosting, most memorably her epic Christmas Eve gatherings that would continue late into the night. Most of all, Bev loved her Sunday family dinners which brought the family together around her table.

A proud Winnipeg Jets fan and devoted follower of many sports, Beverly also loved summers at the family cottage on Royal Lake and getaway trips with Jamie, especially cruises and vacations to Hawaii and Arizona.

Above all, her grandchildren were the centre of her world, each of whom shared a unique bond with her. James treasures their long conversations about his research—always after her keen eye proofread yet another draft. Cassidy cherishes the many hours spent sewing and crafting side by side. Doris’ favourite tradition was decorating for Christmas and arranging Grandma’s beloved village collection. As an avid sports fan, Beverly spent many hours with Thurston explaining the strategies of soccer. Perrie, her youngest grandchild, will forever treasure baking with Grandma and learning her culinary secrets.

“Auntie Bev” was a favourite to her many nieces and nephews, and will always be remembered for her patience, warmth, and unwavering kindness.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Yang and the exceptional teams at Cancer Care and Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Beverly’s memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.

Beverly was extraordinarily talented, creative, and hard working. She was warm-spirited, thoughtful, and generous. She will be missed and cherished forever.

An informal drop-in celebration of Beverly’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church at 603 Wellington Crescent.

I had the privilege of working with Bev at the Red Lake OPP detachment in the 1980's. You always felt secure knowing that Bev was your "lifeline" in the radio room. Bev was liked and respected by all her co-workers and never had an unkind word About anyone. My Wife and I enjoyed socializing with Bev and Jamie, on occasion. Bev was indeed a very special person. Rest in Peace, Bev.

I was so sad to learn of Bev's passing. I'll remember her kindness and amazing Sunday dinners. Every Christmas and Thanksgiving I think about the many many delicious dishes she and Patti would create. She created a fun-filled home where everyone was welcome. Sending my thoughts to the family in this difficult time. Bev was incredibly loved by all of you.

Sending warm/ loving hugs and sincere condolences to Jamie and all the family.

I remember when I was a little girl, we'd go downstairs at Auntie Eileen/ Uncle Bud's house and play pool. Bev was always trying to teach me how to hold the pool cue properly !!!!

As cousins we spent lots of time together but after my family moved to Thunder Bay we didnt get to see each other as often as I would have liked.

My wife Janis and new Bev for almost 57 year. She was a lovely person. So very unassuming but once you had her talking immediately sensed her warmth, whitd and sense of houmer. Regetably we did not see Bev over her last few years but remmember her fondly. Rest in peace Beverly.
