EDWARD ALAN (AL) BIGGAR

1962 - 2022

Peacefully and lovingly remembered by his family, Alan passed away on July 3, 2022 after a long struggle with MS.  Until the end, he was compassionately cared for by the dedicated team at Holy Family in Winnipeg who comforted him on his final journey home.

Alan was born in Morden, Manitoba on April 3, 1962, the youngest child and only son of his beloved parents, Ed and Doreen (McElroy) Biggar of Morden who predeceased him in 2009.

More than anything, Alan was endlessly proud of his three children who survive him: sons Brendan (granddaughter, Gennaya) and Curtis (grandson, Rhys) all of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and; daughter Shealyn of Dallas, Texas along with their Mother, Karen Biggar.

He also leaves behind his sisters: Deborah (Brian) McFerran of Sarasota, Florida; Karene (Raymond) Chan of Airdrie, Alberta, and; Kathy Mitchell of Winnipeg, Manitoba as well as nephews, nieces, and many cousins.

Alan was an active father who was involved in the many activities of his children including hockey and baseball with Brendan and Curtis and gymnastics and aerial dance with Shealyn. Their achievements were many and he spoke endlessly of them all.

Alan was also an active businessperson and entrepreneur in the recreational travel and movie industries in Manitoba where his big smile and joking personality attracted endless customers and grew some of the most interesting friendships.

In his private time, Alan loved the water and enjoyed fishing with his friends up north, casting lines from rocks along the shore. He was a great cook and served up many delicious shore lunches.

He also loved Lundar Beach where he was famous for his prime rib, which was the treat of most summers and enjoyed by all.

Alan’s heath started to decline in 2009 when he was diagnosed with MS.  Its progressive nature robbed him of so much including his ability to live on his own.  Special thanks to his sister, Kathy, and his friend, Reg Giesbrecht, for their patience and determination in helping Alan along this journey to ensure he received the enhanced care he deserved.

The staff at Holy Family Home were the angels Alan needed and we thank them each and all.

May God watch over Alan as he leaves behind the challenges of earth to the freedom of heaven. You are home now and at peace.

Donations in memory of Alan may be made to the MS Society of Manitoba or to the Holy Family Home of Winnipeg.

Alan's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Alan was a lot of fun and he was my younger brother.    He really knew how to make the best BBQ ribs and his  chicken fingers were off the charts...I miss him terribly.  He and Brian(brother in law) rescued me from an abusive marriage.  Alan and Brian flew to Edmonton to  move me back home.  They were very patient with  the move for me to go back to Morden as I was being beaten by my baby daddy.  They weren't sure my pregnancy would survive the trip from Alberta to Manitoba but they were successful  I did give birth to a baby boy Andrew.  I pray that you are with mom and dad and that you are no longer in pain with that horrible disease.  ❤

Al was a good neighbor. We had an active and reciprocal tool borrowing arrangement that likely saved each of us a thousand dollars 😀. We had a riding mower race one morning out front (his mower was significantly faster than my Craftsman) he let up on the throttle so it appeared as though I had a chance... in the final seconds he put it down and won by about 12 feet.  So long Al.

My sincere condolences to the Biggar Family. I worked with Alan in his beginning years in the RV Industry @ GNR Sportsland in the early 80's. I was Service Mgr @ the time and later Sales Mgr. Alan worked  in the parts Dept. to start with.  He was good with customers then and always was. He was very bright and eventually  started his own RV. Store, Big County RV. I worked for Alan at the RV SHOWS held at the Wpg. Conventions Centre. We always had fun doing buisnes there as well as lots of hard work. Alan always had a smile on his face and was very approachable, Every 2-3 months we would plan a lunch and catch up on things, usually at the St. James hotel as it was sort of a midway point for both of us. Proud to have known you Allan. You left us all to soon. Bryan Jensen ❤
