THERESE MARIE DENISE BILODEAU

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Therese (Terry) Bilodeau. Our mother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 12th, 2023 at the age of 83.

She will be lovingly missed by her three children, Joanne, Robert (Liana) and Nicole (Ken); precious grandchildren, Skie, Jesse (Rachel), Megan (Anthony), Sarah, and Julien; and beautiful great-grandchildren Dante, Evan, Drayden, Noah, Dominyk, Quinn, Liam and Lillie-Ann. She is also survived by her siblings, Henri (Marie-Anne), Auguste (Frances), Agnes (Ed) and Rose-Marie (Bruce); and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Therese was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Lucien; her parents, Jean-Baptiste and Germaine Comte and 7 siblings.

Mom was born in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba. She met Dad while working as a practical nurse at the Ste. Rose du Lac Hospital. They fell in love and married December 28th, 1960 and went on to have three children. They were married for 55 years when Dad passed in 2015.

Mom and Dad were avid sports enthusiasts. They were excellent horseshoe players winning over 200 trophies in singles and doubles "A" Division; they enjoyed years participating in bowling leagues and cribbage tournaments. They enjoyed going to Mom's family farm where there was lots of card playing to be had, baseball games and lawn darts to be played, but most of all good food, drinks and laughter with family. Then they would be off to visit Dad's family in Laurier, Manitoba where the music was excellent and endless. There was Dad and numerous family members on guitar, Auntie Louise on piano and everyone singing and dancing. Mom and Dad were always requested to sing their duets. They sang beautifully together.

Mom was an excellent cook and baker. On Saturdays we would come to watch the Habs play and on Sundays we would gather for dinner. Once us kids were grown, Mom and Dad enjoyed going to the casino where they often met up with family. Again, good fun and laughter.

Mom never went back to nursing. When asked why? She replied, "too many sick people". She changed careers and was employed by Canada Post for 21 years. She was very happy to retire saying, "retirement is wonderful". Her attitude was, good-bye tension, hello pension! From there on, Mom and Dad's retirement consisted of watching the Habs play, casino, family and grand-children.

When Dad passed, Mom continued to meet up with Auntie Rose-Marie, Uncle Bruce, Auntie Cecile, Uncle Philippe and her nephew Normand every Tuesday and go out for suppers. She enjoyed these outings very much. She loved her Perkins and Applebees and don't even get us started on Dollarama. She would always say," my gosh they have nice stuff, what a nice store". She continued going to the casino. When she wasn't out and about, she loved her soap operas, gameshows, and her favourite evening shows consisted of Chicago Fire and The Good Doctor.  She did not like the sun, but enjoyed sitting at the patio table in the shade enjoying her flowers. Our mother was a strong-willed woman who knew what she wanted and how things should be done.

Mom had quite a tough time of it in October of 2021 when she received a below the knee amputation due to complications from diabetes. Due to covid outbreaks she was transferred 5 times to 4 different hospitals. She went code blue when transferred to Flin Flon Hospital where they returned her to Misericordia Hospital.  But Mom always had that strong will, she was a woman that didn't give up easily. She gained weight and beat the odds the doctors were giving her surviving another year. Her devoted sister and brother-in-law Auntie Rose-Marie and her husband Uncle Bruce faithfully continued their Tuesday visits here at home. Uncle Philippe and cousin Normand visited when able on these Tuesdays along with Mom's neighbor of 43 years Yvonne who would have the whole group laughing. My goodness, how Mom thoroughly enjoyed these visits.

But now, Club Regent has lost a loyal customer. The time has arrived. Mom received the call, sort of an offer you can't refuse for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus. A reunion with her loving husband Bill along with family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing and where the gambling is free. Where music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Where there are no diabetic worries. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce.

As per Mom's request, who am I kidding? Remember I mentioned her strong will?

As per Mom's strict instructions, there will be no funeral service. We invite you to please privately celebrate Mom's memory in your own ways. We know she will be with us all in spirit. Thank you for your understanding as we honour her wishes.
