ALLAN BIRD
March 22, 1945 – July 20, 2024
It is with great love and fond memories that we celebrate the life of Allan Bird. Allan was born on March 22, 1945 and was called home to the Lord on July 20, 2024.
Left to cherish Allan’s memory is his beloved wife Barb; sons, Sean (Cassandra) and Ryan; and grandson Dallas. He is also survived by his brother Brian (Val); sister-in-law Brenda (Ed); as well as many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.
He is now reunited in heaven with his father George; his mother Helen; Grandma & Grandpa Taylor; and Grandma & Grandpa Bird.
Allan’s faith in God began early in his youth. He attended Talbot Mission Sunday School as a student and later as his faith grew, he progressed to teacher, then Superintendent. He left the mission many years later to attend services with his parents and his family.
As a young man seeking adventure, Allan enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served on the HMCS Bonaventure aircraft carrier.
Allan returned home to Winnipeg and was truly blessed to meet Barb, the love of his life. Their marriage was an unbreakable bond filled with love and friendship through life’s many challenges.
Allan enjoyed his career as an Accountant with Manitoba Hydro, retiring in 2010 after more than 30 years of service. For many years, he sang tenor with the Manitoba Hydro Electric Chords choir. He was elated in 2001 when they recorded Hydro Sings!, a collection of 20 classic Christmas Carols.
In retirement, there was time for new adventures, with memorable trips to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Disney World.
Allan was a passionate sports fan, cheering on the Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, San Francisco 49rs and Boston Celtics.
A devout Anglican, he was a parishioner at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church where he enjoyed fellowship, bible studies and singing hymns.
Following his Parkinson’s diagnosis Allan benefited from the Movers & Shakers support group and exercise program.
The family wishes to thank Bal, his home care attendant, and Dawn & Alex at the Deer Lodge Centre Get Away Club for their excellent care. Special thanks to Brenda Pogorzelec for her medical expertise, advocacy and unwavering support.
Allan has been called home to the Lord and is resting peace. A private Celebration of Life is planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or the Movement Disorder Clinic at the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation.
Allan’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
