JAMES “JIM” ALBERT BIRD
November 6, 1945 -January 15, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Albert Bird on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 79. Dad peacefully took his final breath with his daughters and loved ones by his side at Riverview Health Centre.
His legacy is carried on by his daughters, Caryn Barr (David) and Jaime-Dawn Bird; grandsons, Brendan Barr, Dillon Barr, Jeffrey Boonstra, and Matthew Boonstra. In addition to his children and their families, he leaves behind to cherish his memories his sister, Janice Bird; brothers, Harry Bird (Lori) and Bruce Bird (Carol); nieces and nephews, his golf crew, and his Safeway Smile Club girls.
He was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Joseph Bird; and his special niece, Morgan Debaets.
His voice, smile, and stories will be deeply missed and cherished in our hearts and those of everyone he loved. He is now pain-free, and we are sure he is somewhere teaching someone to throw a fastball, cooking one of his special soups, or playing the golf game he never dreamed he would play again.
We love and miss you always, Dad.
As per his wishes, a family interment will be held at a later date.
Jim’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

We met Jim when we joined River Oaks Golf Course in 2020. We had the privelege of being in the foursome behind Jim and his group and benefiting from his largesse when he left balls on the greens for us (mostly coloured balls for the women). We knew last year that it would maybe be his last year as a member but expected to see him on the course on an occasional basis on his good days. We did not learn of his passing until we renewed our golf membership just today. We will miss Jim. Opening day is this coming Thursday, April 17 and I will make a point of hitting a ball (a coloured one) into the water hazard on # 9 in his memory.
Condolences to the family

My deepest condolences to the family. Jim and my older brother, Toby were friends growing up in Morse Place down the back lane from each other.

We are extremely saddened by Jim’s passing. He was extremely kind and generous to our family. Jim opened his home up to us more times than I could count. This included home cooked meals, which gave us energy to make it through another hospital stay with our precious little Morgie. Jim was never nervous to pick her up and love her when her health conditions made her care challenging. He would say “she’s just like any other little kid. She just wants to be loved.” Uncle Jim was Morgan’s person, and they shared an amazing bond. He loved both our girls unconditionally. Cassie adored her “Uncle Jim” and she has many fond memories the times they spent together. Even when she left for University, they stayed in touch. I, too, always looked forward to getting one of his heart-warming hugs. Throughout last few years ,his texts or phone calls eased my broken heart.
Jim, I hope you and my little Morgie are walking hand in hand around the most beautiful golf course imaginable . Give her a kiss on the cheek and a huge Uncle Jim size hug for me.

We had some great times with Jim, fishin, golfing, and yes, his stories. He didn't like me out fishing him, but usually helped me clean them after. Bill and I have some good memories.
