Bill Blackburn

WILLIAM (BILL) EDWARD BLACKBURN
October 12, 1947 – October 8, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the Promotion to Glory of William (Bill) Edward Blackburn, who left us peacefully on October 8, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Born to Wynne and Harry Blackburn, Bill lived a life of quiet boldness, faith, and devotion. A lifelong Salvationist and former officer of the corps, he played nearly every brass instrument and often led worship through his music, including as bandmaster. In the last year of his life, he joined a Baptist church, continuing to share his faith and love of song.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Carol Taylor, and together they shared twenty years of marriage filled with care and laughter. In recent years, he devoted himself to caring for Carol as she navigates life with dementia.
A proud labourer, athlete, and bowler, Bill loved baseball, hockey, and cheering for the Blue Jays, Canucks, Jets and the Maple Leafs. Stubborn and thoughtful, he was never afraid to stand by what he believed.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jonathan and Julie; and his siblings, Melodie, Dave, Greg, Randy, Debbie, and Fred; and predeceased by Gary, Rick, Betty, Colleen, Don, and Janet.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at The Salvation Army Heritage Park Temple, 825 School Road, Winnipeg. The service will be led by Lieutenants Dion and Jenelle Durdle.
Bill will be remembered for his faith, his steadiness, and his quiet strength.
Bill’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
