GLENDA GAIL LYNEEN BLOIS

(née GADWAY)

February 12, 1940 – January 16, 2025

With heavy hearts, we sadly announce that Glenda passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on January 16, 2025.

Glenda is survived by her children, Cheryl (Bruce) Gibson, Don (Doreen) Blois, Lori (Ryan) Gavinchuk; as well as her five grandchildren, Stephanie (Troy) Gibson, Allison (Valter) Gibson, Cynthia (Darian) Blois, Dylan, and Natasha Gavinchuk. She is also survived by her sister Anna Holmgren; and brother Lorne Gadway; and many nieces and nephews.

Glenda is predeceased by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Reg; brothers, Frank, Norman, Harvey; and sisters, Wilma, Jean, Verna, Margaret, Florence, Lynne, and Fay.

Glenda was born on February 12, 1940, to Leon and Ruby Gadway in Oakville, Manitoba, the youngest of thirteen children – she was the baby of the family!

Growing up in Oakville, Mom had lots of friends, and their family home was always open to the neighbourhood kids coming and going. She loved sports, especially playing ball and curling!

Glenda met her future husband, Reg Blois – who was stationed at RCAF MacDonald - at a dance in Oakville. They married in November 1958 and later travelled with the military to Red Deer, Alberta where Glenda worked for Safeway for five years.

They had their first child, Cheryl, in 1963 and Glenda retired to become a full-time mother and homemaker. They moved back to Portage la Prairie, where they had their second child, Donald, in 1966. They would later move to Lahr, Germany and then to Comox, BC, where they would have their youngest child, Lori, in 1975.

After ten years in BC, they made their final move back to Winnipeg in 1980 to be closer to her family. They lived in the St. James area for the next 36 years until Reg passed away in 2016.

Glenda worked as a Health Care Aide for Grace Hospital for 15 years and after her second retirement, carried on her love of gardening, watching curling, (you always knew when curling was on because if you called her during a bonspiel, she would ask you “Are you not watching curling?!” and have to call you back), cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

After Reg’s passing, Mom moved into her own apartment for a few years but would later move in with her youngest daughter, Lori, to help look after her grandchildren, Dylan, and Natasha. She was the best Grandma ever!

When Mom became ill, Lori took a leave of absence from her job to care for her. It was particularly important to Mom to be able to stay in her home, and she was lovingly cared for until she passed.

As per Mom's wishes there will be no service. A private memorial will be held in spring when Glenda’s ashes will be laid to rest with her husband Reg. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Alzheimer Society or The Winnipeg Humane Society in Glenda’s name.

A special thank you to the Palliative Care team, especially Trish and to Dr. Michael Stephensen for all their care and support.

Mom, we will never forget you,

and will cherish you always!

We will miss you.

Glenda’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I always loved going there at Christmas time. There was soooo much baking. I loved her cowboy cookies. I got the recipe from her years ago. I always think of her when I make them. So many good memories hanging out in the kitchen.

Grandma loved playing computer games, board games and solving puzzles with all of us as we were growing up! One game we always played together as a family was rummoli! Whether it be at someones home or when we went camping at the lake, you could bet that was one of the games we would play in the evenings!

Grandma was also an amazing baker and cook! She made family dinners look so easy and so well put together! As soon as we were done dinner and the table was cleared, it wouldn't be clear for long, as a huge platter of sweets were ready to be put out!

Grandma was so generous to those in her home, she always made sure you never left without a bite to eat, as well in the summer time, never would you leave without a couple bags of cucumbers, tomatoes or carrots! Her garden was always plentiful, and I'm still trying to figure out how she did it!

I will miss you greatly Grandma, I hope heaven has a big ole garden and curling up there!

I remember the Thanksgiving dinner we had at Bruce & Cheryls. Even tho Glenda had oxygen she still enjoyed the

When our Mom was in Grace Hospital recovering from shoulder operation, Glenda helped Mom while eating her meals. Glenda & Reg were a beautiful couple.

RIP Glenda. Heaven has gained another Angel.

Grandma had the best vegetable garden and whenever you visited she would always have a bag of cucumber, tomatoes, peas for you to take home.

She had a beautiful soul that I will never forget.

Rest easy Grandma
