DARRYL JARVIS BODNARCHUK

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Darryl at Riverview Health Centre surrounded by his wife, Patricia, and son, Darryl Cory.

After a long battle with congestive heart failure, Darryl passed away peacefully on August 15, 2020, at the age of 78 years.

Darryl was born on July 30, 1942, in Fort Frances, Ontario. He is survived by the "love of his life" of 52 years, Patricia; his precious son Darryl Cory; sisters-in-law, Lynne (Alan Inness), Michelle Lafrance, Monique (Bruce) MacLean, Carole (Don) Pitre; brother-in-law Len (Sharon) Lafrance, and Marc (Dorota) Lafrance; sister Diane Borowski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Darryl was predeceased by his parents Jarvis and Francis Bodnarchuk; and brother-in-law, Bob Massey (partner of Michelle Lafrance)

During the early years in the carpet business, Darryl developed a strong relationship with Wayne Curtis. (Owner of Curtis Carpets in Winnipeg). Darryl worked in the carpet business for many years. He won contests as the top carpet salesman which resulted in trips to Las Vegas, Scottsdale Arizona, Puerto Rico, Costa del Sol Spain, and St. Lucia. In later years, Darryl was self-employed as a Real Estate Consultant and an Entrepreneur. This is when he met his dear friend Russ Knight.

Darryl's passion was his family came first and all else came second! He loved sports and watching games with his son, Darryl Cory. Darryl Senior coached young Darryl's football team, the St. Boniface Warriors. They won two back-to-back championships!

Darryl was told August 2019 that he was going into Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital. His response to his family was "That's my fate and I accept it!" Always making it easy for the rest of us. Darryl would say, "I've had a wonderful life with my beautiful wife and handsome son... what else is there?"

After eight weeks in the St. Boniface Hospital, Darryl stabilized and returned home with Pat. His wife cared for him from October 2019 to August 2020. It was truly a gift having Darryl home.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Palliative homecare nurse, Lana and health care aid, Bien. Bien cared passionately for Darryl!

Darryl was admitted into Riverview Health Centre August 7, 2020, as his health declined. Pat and Darryl Cory sincerely appreciate the excellent care that Riverview provided.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Darryl's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

In keeping with Darryl's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of his life will be held when it is possible to gather. In the meantime, Darryl’s family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. The Dash

​

I read of a man who stood to speak at a funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning… to the end.

​

He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

​

For that dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.

​

For it matters not, how much we own, the cars… the house… the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

​

So think about this long and hard; are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left that still can be rearranged.

​

To be less quick to anger and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.

​

If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile… remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

​

So when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash, would you be proud of the things they say about how you lived your dash?
