ALISON ELIZABETH BODNER
(née KEDDIE)
January 17, 1963 - October 30, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, cousin and friend Alison Elizabeth Bodner (née Keddie).
Alison will be greatly missed by her husband Jeff; daughter Anna; brother Greg Keddie (Jacquie); Aunt Diane Fleming; Uncles, Frank Bird (Shirley) and Andrew Keddie (Susan Berry); and many cousins, friends, colleagues and former students.
Alison was predeceased by her parents, David and Elizabeth (Betsy) Keddie; parents in-law, Mike and Therese Bodner; aunt and uncle Marnie and Dave Crumb; and uncles, Stephen Keddie (Ev) and Harvey Fleming (Diane).
Alison grew up in Fort Garry and had fond childhood memories of time spent at her grandparent's house in Wildwood Park as well as with many other family members and friends. Summers were often spent enjoying activities at the Wildwood Club and at Denare Beach, SK (near Flin Flon, MB) where several family members maintained cottages.
After completing her degree in education, Alison started her teaching career as a teacher-librarian at Pacific Junction school and also worked at nearby Beaumont school. She then moved to Bairdmore school where she was the teacher-librarian until her retirement in 2022. Alison was passionate about libraries and learning and was beloved by many students and co-workers. She volunteered for many extracurricular student activities including the running club program that prepared students for various running events at the annual Manitoba Marathon. Alison had a very distinguished teaching career and received numerous accolades and awards. In 2019 she received the Manitoba School Library Association "Outstanding Teacher-Librarian of the Year" award. The following year Alison was presented with the Canadian School Libraries "Angela Thacker Memorial Award" at a banquet in Toronto for her outstanding contributions and leadership in the field of school libraries and teacher-librarianship. Alison was later recognized in the Manitoba Legislature for her many achievements and the positive impact she was having on students in Fort Richmond as the teacher-librarian at Bairdmore School.
Alison was a lifelong sports fan and was active in track, soccer and field hockey during her school years. She played and coached ringette, and in 1990 she played bandy on a team representing Canada at a tournament in Moscow, Russia. She remained active throughout her life enjoying Sunday runs followed by breakfast with her "running friends"; Alison and a group of these friends were thrilled to be able to run the NYC marathon in 1999. Alison was also a huge Winnipeg Jets fan and actively followed and cheered for them.
Alison loved to travel and made trips to Hawaii, Europe, and the UK including for her marriage to Jeff in Gretna Green, Scotland. During her teacher exchange in a small rural school near Adelaide, Australia in 1996, Alison traveled to each Australian state, and New Zealand with fellow teachers as well as with her mother, brother and Jeff who came to visit her at various times that year. Later on, Alison and her family made many trips in Canada and the US with Florida and nearby southern states being a favourite and frequent destination. Many shopping trips were also made to Grand Forks, Fargo and Minneapolis with both family and friends. Alison and her lifelong close friends also made regular milestone birthday year trips to destinations in Canada and the US including Sonoma CA for their most recent 60 year milestone.
Alison's greatest joy was her family and many friends. We were all fortunate to have experienced her kind-heartedness, thoughtfulness and sweet, positive demeanor. We will all miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Free Library or to a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Alison's Life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Pinnacle Club - Princess Auto Stadium located at 315 Chancellor Matheson Rd in Winnipeg.
In the meantime, we kindly request that all of Alison’s friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Our deepest sympathies to Jeff,Anna, and family. I met Alison in our University days when Massey and Kelvin friends united. Later our paths crossed occasionally on walks in the neighbourhood. I always wished we had visited more. What a gifted and talented woman. The warmest kindest smile and sparkling eyes always made you feel welcome. RIP Alison

Mrs. Bodner was an extraordinary librarian and teacher who left a lasting impact on everyone she met. I had the privilege of knowing her for four years before her retirement, and it was an honor to be one of her students. Learning of her passing is truly heartbreaking, but her contributions to the Bairdmore community will never be forgotten. She touched so many lives, including mine, and her legacy will continue to inspire us all. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family. May they find comfort in knowing how deeply she was loved and appreciated.
Sincerely,
Nima

Alison was the warmest, kindest and most beloved Librarian/teacher at Bairdmore during the years our children attended that school. Alison allowed our kids to borrow extra books every school cycle and made great suggestions for them. She sourced the missing books from other Libraries when our daughter was reading "The 39 Clues" series. Alison ran alongside our youngest daughter in Kindergarten and Grade one so that she could run with the older kids in Marathon Club. Alison always had a very bright smile on her face. We are devastated by the news of her passing but she will live on in our hearts through all the great memories we have of her. Fly high with the angels, Alison. Sending lots of love and warm hugs to her family and friends.

It was my great priviledge to work with Alison at Bairdmore's Library. Her kind, caring nature and infectious smile were a daily delight. I shall remember her fondly whenever I look at dots, see gingerbread men, or see paper leaf bags (The Paperbag Princess)! All the students enjoyed coming to the Library as her enthusiasm was contagious. What a beautiful video of her life. She accomplished so much in such a short life. She will be greatly missed. Sending hearfelt sympathy to Anna, Jeff and the Bodner Family

Jeff and Anna, please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of Alison. I was fortunate to have Anna in my class during my early years of teaching. Alison was an incredibly kind and supportive parent, always willing to help me assist her daughter and the other students. Over time, I came to view her as a colleague, deserving of the same professional respect she extended to me. I am a better educator for having known her and learned from her. Alison was a mentor to many, a tireless advocate for libraries and teacher-librarians, and a truly wonderful person. Her capacity for supporting teachers and students was matched only by her loving heart.

Sending my deepest condolences to Jeff, Anna and family. Alison was such a kind, thoughtful person and dear, supportive friend. We shared a leadership role and collaborated on many projects at Bairdmore School. I really loved working with Alison and appreciated her enthusiasm, knowledge and experience. We also shared a love of sports, especially hockey. We spoke frequently about the Jets, and even attended a few games together. We were both so excited when Andrew Ladd and Mark Scheifele came to read to my students for I Love to Read month. I will fondly remember these and many other memories of Alison. She will be dearly missed.

I was so sadden to hear the news of Alison's untimely passing. Please except my heartfelt condolences. I had the priviledge to partner with Alison as a guest reader at Bairdmore and have the fondest memories of her dressed up as the Paper Bag Princess! Her joy and passion for fostering the love of reading in her students was evident to anyone who had the opportunity to see her in action! She oozed with enthusiasm and it was contagious! Observing her as an educator was to see where her heart was professionally. She made an everlasting impact with her students as well as with those around her in her advocacy for the importance of literacy and the role of a librarian in our schools! She will be missed.
Sincerest sympathy,
Cindy

Sending my deepest condolences to Jeff, Anna and family. I have wonderful memories of Alison as a friend and colleague at Bairdmore School. She shared her enthusiasm in everything she did be it book fairs, Christmas concerts, Halloween celebrations, singing in our staff choir or Voyageur Activity Afternoons, to name a few. Alison was always there to volunteer. That was her nature. She gave generously of her time, making everyone feel special with her kind words and actions. Alison greeted library-goers with a smile, welcoming and inspiring them to read. As technology entered our school system, she willingly shared her knowledge with students and staff. Her helpfulness and positive outlook were appreciated by all. Alison's memory will always be cherished.

Dear Jeff, Anna, and family,
- My family and I send you our heartfelt condolences on Alison's recent passing. Like the beautiful song in Alison's tribute above, "many battles are lost" and unfortunately such was the case for Alison's brave battle with cancer, 😢. Despite this loss, I and many others will always fondly remember working with Alison at Bairdmore School. She was a fabulously supportive colleague and had a deep understanding of the needs of others. I would frequently approach Alison to get her ideas about improving professional development activities for staff and she would always come up with something innovating and interesting. Alison's high level of intelligence, curiosity, and commitment to serving the needs of others in her role as teacher-librarian was incredible and she will have impacted the lives off many students and staff. Her various awards/accolades were much deserved. Please know that our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time of loss.
