Dr. Gerry Bohémier

DR. GERALD (GERRY) BOHÉMIER
October 4, 1949 – October 28, 2025
On October 28th, 2025 we lost one of the greats, and to many, an actual hero.
His large extended family was very important to him, his “Tribe” as he would lovingly refer to them. Gerry was the heart, soul and center of this amazing family. Even more than loving them, he enjoyed being of service to his family. You could ALWAYS count on Gerry to be there for you, whether it was helping with a complex repair or construction job (which he excelled at); moving your stuff halfway across the country (which he did dozens of times for people)… or being the impressive history consultant on multiple family genealogy projects and then helping deliver several hundred family history books to family members across North America…by car…in his seventies. (true story!)
Most people outside of his family knew him as Dr. Gerry… a compassionate and wise healer who tirelessly and selflessly gave, all the way until the end. His door was always open to anyone who needed help, and he routinely went out of his way to put his patients and others first. He was one of Manitoba's most beloved and well-respected Chiropractors and health educators. His passion for natural health and public speaking not only helped thousands over his long career but influenced countless others to go out into the world to serve others and spread truth. The ripple effects of this part of his life alone will end up touching millions of lives.
His favorite saying, that he repeated endlessly to those who knew him best, has now been etched into a commemorative bench on a Whiteshell hiking trail that he helped develop: « You never know how far reaching something you may think, say or do today, may affect the lives of millions tomorrow. ’Tis better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. Get the Big Idea, and all else follows. » - Dr. B.J. Palmer
To others, Gerry was an unshakable, fierce warrior and leader when it came to Freedom and Liberty. As far back as the early 1980s, no one fought harder and longer for causes that protected individuals against government overreach, medical tyranny, and anything he believed was unjust. He raised funds effortlessly; started successful non-profits that helped families in desperate need; and the way he rallied people together to fight the good fight will be talked about for decades. He was a bold and courageous voice for thousands who didn’t have one, and the difference he made is evident in the praise he now receives.
For the Manitobans reading this… Gerry was one of the original French Canadian “Rock Stars”. A founding member of Les Louis Boys (St-Boniface’s version of The Rolling Stones!); he is the originator of the “Hé Ho!” chant that has now become the official brand slogan of the Festival du Voyageur…seen by millions over the years. He had a huge love of music and from a young age was known by many as one of the greatest entertainers around. He was captivating, a natural who always had a guitar close by, ready to entertain any crowd.
And finally, what few people know is that he was one of the best pilots to ever come out of the original Winnipeg Flying Club. A flight instructor with every certification one can get…he taught countless pilots who went on to have professional careers. He may have left that world early on and changed career paths to fight bigger fights…but his first and biggest love outside of his family was always aviation. After about 50 years of not flying, he had a dying wish to fly one last time, and just a few months ago in January, he got back into the cockpit of his old Cessna and flew it so perfectly, it was as if he had never left it. Those of us who witnessed this on that amazing day were in awe when he greased that landing…in a Canadian snowstorm with poor visibility at that!
He was inspiring in many ways, to so many. Whether he was Dad, “Pépé”, Husband, Brother, Cousin, Uncle or Friend...he will be missed more than words can describe by all of us who knew him best. One can only imagine the stories, the music and entertainment he is now contributing to in heaven. Soar like an eagle Gerry…you’re free. We love you.
Gerry leaves behind his children and grandchildren - Stéphane Bohemier and Sarah (Hartuniewicz) Milo/Milou; Justin Bohemier; Dominic Bohemier and Nicole (Lahaie), Mishellah, Aliyah, Adia, Calum; Jani (Bohemier) Barnes and Greg, Nora, Leo, Gabie as well as his brother, his sisters, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law and countless cousins and friends.
A very special thank you to the staff of the Grace Hospice for tirelessly tending to Gerry with so much tenderness and compassion.
A private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends. To view Dr. Gerry’s Celebration of Life, live on Saturday November 22nd at 1pm CST, click on the following link:

You never know how far reaching something you may think, say or do today, may affect the lives of millions tomorrow. ’Tis better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. Get the Big Idea, and all else follows. » - Dr. B.J. Palmer

Gerry's celebration was amazing to watch. It really showed who he was. I remember the days that he would pop in to my work in White Rock and surprise me, After work, I would go listen to Rose and Gerry's speaches at the Health Clinic and I was so proud of my cousin. My condolences to the family from all of us here in Vancouver. We loved his entertainment so much! He was a blessing to all of us. Music is therapy and the Louis Boys will be forever online where we can join him in spirit any at time. It was an honor to join the celebration live today. Thank you!

Gerry has always been an amazing brother in law, always rock solid in his principles, a teacher to so many, an inspiration and an example to the many who loved and respected him. I could easily keep expanding on his extensive knowledge, passion and warrior spirit, as so many have already done. Or, I could talk about Gerry’s love for music and his ability to bring life to a room with his guitar, and the first time that I saw Gerry perform with the Louis Boys at Festival du Voyageur at the Centre Culturel in Saint Boniface back in the early 70’s…
However, many aren’t aware of Gerry’s love for the outdoors and his sense of adventure, and that’s what I’d like to talk about.
I’ve had many great adventures with ‘Geraldo’, as I’ve lovingly called him over the last several decades.
Our earliest adventures together… we started Life Chiropractic College together in Atlanta, Georgia in July, 1977, and graduated together in June, 1980.
After graduation, we both came back to the St. Boniface/St. Vital areas to set up our practices and teach the chiropractic principle and way of life to many folks.
- Other adventures with Gerry through the years includes the 4 days that Gerry and his son Dominic accompanied my friend Gilles and I by canoe as we swam the length of the Mantario Canoe Route.
- Gerry was our driver, support crew and nutrition coach while our son and I competed in the 7 day TransRockies Bike Race in 2007.
- Gerry, in the last decade or so, loved to come accompany me on trail adventures - helping us build, improve and maintain our trails in the South Whiteshell. He thrived in the forest and loved contributing to trail work.
- Gerry was one of the small handful of dedicated trail volunteers who spent most of a weekend in the rain in late September, 2017, cutting the initial path that became the Sabe Skills Loop at Blue Highway in the South Whiteshell.
- I’ve taken Geraldo on several mountain bike rides, water ski adventures, etc., which he always enjoyed. He was always game to try new things!
- We explored the Bannock Point Petroforms and the not so well known Petroforms that he’d discovered through a friend.
- We took a quick impromptu road trip together to Vancouver Island a few years ago.
- For many years, he helped us in the organization and race day execution of Swamp Donkey Adventure Race in the Falcon Lake/West Hawk Area.
- We grounded together on the site of the Thunderbird Skills Structure at Blue Highway trail area.
- Just a few years ago, Gerry was thrilled to witness and film a helicopter that picked up and transported an 800 pound granite bench to a remote location on Blue Highway Route near Caddy Lake.
Gerry has been a true warrior! Seeing how many people he has influenced over the years is a testimony to this quote from the developer of Chiropractic, B. J. Palmer:
“We never know how far reaching something we may think, say or do, today, will affect the lives of millions tomorrow.”
The above quote is part of the inscription that Gerry chose to put on the plaque for the granite bench that he donated to South Whiteshell Trail Association a few years ago.
I have fond and cherished memories of the special times that Geraldo and I spent together, and I fully expect that he’ll be with me in spirit in many adventures to come!

My parents were patients of Dr. Gerry. He knew I was going to Chiropractic collage and invited me to work with him in his Windsor Park office for a couple of months when I returned home to Winnipeg after graduation. I was uncertain as to where I wanted to practice but the offer of mentorship was a golden opportunity. In January of 1985, I learned the ropes of patient and office management in his Windsor Park office and he gave me free reign in his satelite office in Lorette, Manitoba. I bought the practice from him six months later and I'm sill there. He gave me the encouragement and practical experience needed to be a practitioner in Manitoba. His friendly, compationate and dedicated service to his patients was inspirational. Thank you, Dr. Gerry for giving me the start I needed to be the successful doctor I am today and to the Bohemier families and extended families in the Lorette area who accepted the new kid on the block with open hearts and encouraging words.
