BEVERLY "BEV" BORTOLUZZI

May 24, 1952 – March 28, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce that Bev passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021 in the Gimli Hospital at the age of  68 years.

While Bev never had children of her own, she is survived by her nieces, Tara, Krista (Rob), Melissa (Andrew), Janel, and Tessa; and her nephew Ryan (Erin) (to all of whom she was an amazing aunt); brother George (Hanna); grandnieces, Alexia, Isabella, and Sofia; grandnephews, Bentley and Erik; and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her common-la partner Donnie; parents, Fred (Sr.) and Alice (née Riddell); and Brothers Fred (Jr.) and Donald.

Bev was second youngest of four children and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attended St. Alphonsus School, St. Mary’s Academy, and Miles MacDonald Collegiate. During her time in primary school Bev honored her mother’s Riddell Scottish heritage by taking up highland dancing, and she was a member of Girl Guides of Canada. Bev attended the University of Manitoba and obtained her Education Degree. Bev’s passion for teaching spanned over 30 years being a substitute teacher for the Winnipeg School Division and the Interlake School Division.

Like her mother Alice, Bev grew up loving the peace and tranquility of nature. With family she enjoyed the family cottage at Otter Falls in the Whiteshell Provincial Park for many years. Bringing the family together and enjoying memories was especially important to Bev. When her mother Alice suffered from a stroke in 1984, Bev stepped up and was tower of strength and helped care of her mother for over 17 years until her mother’s passing. She loved spending time with her nieces including treating them to movies as kids and carried on the tradition of special times together with brunch and shopping dates.

Bev enjoyed the last 20 years in Matlock, MB., where she was involved in the local community social groups, Church and her most cherished passion being a member the Toast Masters Club. This provided the platform to share her love of writing stories and poetry through her speeches. She loved the relaxed lake life and spending time with her beloved dogs, Caesar and Hero.

The family would like to thank the Interlake Palliative Care and Home Care teams, and the Gimli Hospital doctors, nurses and support staff for all their help and care during the last few months of Bev’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Bev’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba.

A celebration of Bev’s life will be held at a later date when friends and family can gather to celebrate and share all the amazing memories they shared with her.

Following the celebration of life her interment will take place at St. Andrews On the Red Cemetery, St. Andrews. MB. Bev’s family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above, and sharing photos, memories and stories in the comment section on this page.

Miss Me – But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room!

Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little – but not too long

And not with your head bowed low,

Remember the love that we once shared

Miss me – but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take

And each must go alone;

It's all a part of the master's plan

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me – but let me go.

We were were saddened to hear of Bev’s passing. She was a very caring lady who impacted many lives. When we were in Winnipeg, a visit to the beach included lunch with Bev at the Gimli hotel. Richard and Bev always spoke on their birthdays and Christmas. Our thoughts and prayers are with George, her nieces, nephew and their families.  Rest In Peace Bev.  Richard and Judy Bortoluzzi (cousin) Edmonton

Bev was one of 2 of our village train museum volunteers over the past 3 years.  Every Saturday morning through June to September, she would roll into our museum with Hero and candied treats in hand.  Always speaking to him with several directions, some positive and negative, she would spend the morning with myself.  With tourists she would always tell them "speak to him not me as he knows all this material.  She loved to sell T-shirts and sweatshirts, especially at our Friday night gatherings.  We will definitely miss her presence when we will be able to be open again.  Take care my friend.  Don Bowles

Beverly was my Maid of Honour when I married in 1972. My family had moved next door to the Bortoluzzi's in 1967 and from the first day Bev welcomed me into her friendship fold. She was kind and funny and endured a lot of teasing from her brothers. I always thought her to be so beautiful. I have great memories of overnighters at our homes, parties and drives to Lockport. I last saw Bev when she and Donnie came to our 40th anniversary party but we continued to exchange Christmas cards. Thank you for this lovely video and obituary. I am very saddened by her passing. I will miss my aunt Bev so much. Over the last few years we would regularly get together for brunch at Cora's Polo Park, and then go shopping at Marshals and Winners Home Sense. We had so much fun. I was able to find some additional pictures of here I've attached below.

I first knew Bev through her belated partner Donnie, whom she loved dearly. Donnie and Reg were very close, so I got to know Bev through Donnie, and we sent time together on a trip to Osoyoos. Bev then joined our Toastmasters club and loved hearing other people's stories as well as telling many of her own. Her dry sense of humour made us laugh time after time! Bev was bold in finding chocolate and always raced to Reg's treat drawer whenever visiting our home. I hope she has discovered an unlimited supply of complimentary chocolate in heaven.   ❤

Bev we hardly knew you.  Through our Toastmasters and often lunch at Chicken Chef.  You, wiping milkshake off your nose, stealing fries from others plates.  We had too many with lots to share.  You gave us snippets of your life.  You tantalized us with stories, of Arborg and towels.  We were introduced to Hero and why you would rush off rather than stay longer.  And now we are left wishing you could have stayed longer but our Creator had other plans.  Rest in the peace of his love.  David and Sandra

We will remember Bev as a kind, friendly & pleasant next door neighbor on Foxgrove! Our families grew up together & cherish many fond memories of good times in our yards & homes! Bev had the most infectious laugh & we will always remember her for the way she giggled! She loved to chat & have coffee & get caught up on the family! Rest in peace Bev! We will miss your compassion!❤  Dudeck Family

My cousin Bev brought my wife and I together back in 1969 at a party at her house and we remain lovingly together to this day.  Often in our thoughts, we will always remember her for her wonderful humour and all the fun times together.

❤We only knew Bev for the last 5 years since she joined Toastmasters In The Arts.  Getting to know her through her stories was a treat.   We will miss her volunteering at the Station Museum.  Farewell.

Sincere condolences to the family of Bev. I am saddened to hear of another loss so soon. The video was beautifully done. I remember how welcoming Bev was in Matlock with me showing up with brother Fred numerous times. She loved her Dog. ❤
