DONALD WILLIAM BOUCHER

December 20, 1940 - June 8, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald William Boucher on June 8, 2023. A loving husband, father, Grandfather, Uncle and Brother passed away at the age of 82.

Don is survived by his wife Ann; daughters, Michelle (Scott) and Tannis (Tim); grandchildren, Danielle, Brent, and Jessica; many beloved pets; his brother Bob (Joanne); sisters, Sharon, Yvonne, and Sandy; sister-in-law Barb; Brother-in-Law Bill (Joan); along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Kelly and Anne; his brother Leonard; brothers-in-law, Al, Art, and Barry; and sisters-in-law, Erva and Gwen.

Where do you start to honour the life of someone who was loved by so many.

Donald William Boucher was born on December 20, 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Kelly and Anne Boucher. He was the eldest of 6 children.

In 1963 Don met the love of his life, Ann Foreman. They went on to marry in December of 1965 and have celebrated 58 years of marriage and 60 years of love and commitment to each other. In October of 1966 the first of two daughters were born, Michelle followed by Tannis in June of 1970.

Those that knew Don knew he was the most loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He always put his family first. He was a hard-working young man which continued through the years as he provided for his family. Don was hired by his Uncle John at Western Vinegars at the age of 15 where he worked for 25 years before the plant closed. He went on to work at Zipper Courier and Williams/Cassidy Restaurant Supply before retiring in 1999.

Some of Don’s interests were family, photography and anything electronic. His home is filled with the many photos taken on vacations, Sunday drives and trips across western Canada. He had a love for music which first appeared as he took up playing the accordion and in later years tinkering on a keyboard. He had a love for bagpipes. Should you hear them play, think of Don. If you have ever had the chance to sit in his back yard you can appreciate his love of nature. Surrounded by a beautiful garden and yard tended together with his wife Ann. The flowers bloom, the garden grows and the birds visit. It is a place of many family gatherings over the years.

Don was a man of few words. His stern look and quiet demeanor always gave way to a smile and being called a big softie once he spoke. He pinned this quote to the bulletin board in the kitchen. “Don’t underestimate me. I know more than I say, think more than I speak and notice more than you realize”. We couldn’t’ have said it better.

The family would like to thank Dr. Caners, all the doctors and nurses at Cancer Care, Health Science Center and Concordia Hospital.

We love you and we miss you. You will be forever in our hearts.

“Grief, I have learned, is really just love.

It’s all the love you want to give but cannot.

All the unspent love gathers up in the

corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat,

and in that hollow part of your chest.

Grief is just love with no place to go.”

~Jamie Anderson

A celebration of Don's life will be held at 2pm on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy (Unitarian Church).

Don’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

The ever handy (and prepared) Don lent my husband (Tim) a drill unbeknownst to us on a ski trip.  Tim was bragging all day how he was a better skier but leaned back heavily on his skiis.  Al mentioned he knew a guy that lost toe nails doing that.  So...later that night we are having cocktails and snacks when suddenly we hear a drill in the bathroom.  Al rushes to see what is going on, only to find Don overseeing Tim using his drill to relieve the pressure under his toe nails.  We had a good laugh at their not so quiet little surgery.

I first met Don and Brenda in 1979 when we became neighbors two doors down from one another. I will always remember Don as a gentleman's gentleman. My sincere condolences to Brenda, Joelle, Teri Anne and extended family.

I met Don when he and I dated good friends, Brenda and Arlene. We married them and we have been friends ever since. And what a good friend he was . He was one of the most helpful honourable men you would ever want to meet . The list of things he helped me with is endless and I learned so much from him on each project. The world is a much poorer place without Don. I will miss you, my friend. Rest in peace. Bryan Keller

Don was always smiling and upbeat.  A stranger was just a friend he never met. He was so brave right up until the end. We are left with so many memories - our camping trips, winters in Arizona, coffees at the mall, Sunday breakfasts and so much more. We miss you Don! Marilyn & Vern

An all round great guy, Mr. Smiles..I've know Brenda and Don since the days on Egerton Road St, Vital where I was Brenda's neighbour ( the 60s)..  and of course Don and I were FireFighters in Winnipeg. He was interesting to talk to as we somehow often met in Costco, where else !!! Brenda and family, take care.  John Manning

Don added so much to our annual ski trips to Steamboat and Whistler, especially he and Bryan Keller ragging on each other. Lots of laughs, and always Don's big smile. We miss you, Don.

Don was a pleasure to work with and to learn from. Loved meeting up with him for coffee, and to talk all things trailer and truck related, and the various routes south! Condolences to the entire family. Rick Turenne

My deepest sympathies Ann, Michelle, Tannis and family. Mr B was a great man and was very good to me. When I look back I can only smile, the stern looking man with a heart of gold. I remember that stern look the first time I pulled up in your driveway, my reaction was 'ummm gulp'. Then I got  to know the kind man behind the look, seeing that smile and discovering that sense of humor. I can't talk about Mr B without mentioning his pizza, imitated but I could never duplicate it.  You were loved my many will be missed by many!
