LORETTA BOULARD

May 31, 1956 - November 25, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, as she lost her fight with brain cancer.  With family by her side at the St. Boniface Hospital, Loretta passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the age of 62.

Left to cherish her memory, are her children Donna (Randy) Thorsteinson, Andy Jr. (Laurie) Boulard, Nicole (Glen) Greico; eight grandchildren Taylor, Lexi, Riley, Tyler, Reese, Hayden, Dominic and Ariana; husband Andrew; sister & best friend Anita (Mike); one brother Brian (Myrna); six other sisters and many nephews, nieces and cousins.  She is predeceased by her mom, dad, brother, two sisters, a special nephew and three brothers-in-law.

Loretta was born on Thursday, May 31, 1956 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba and was a proud Métis woman from the community of Duck Bay, Manitoba.  Loretta was 10 years old when her family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she began her life journey.

Loretta, whose family nickname was ‘Mygirl’ was such a beautiful, well-rounded woman who learned many valuable life skills from her mom such as baking, cooking, sewing and making crafts.  She would spend countless hours with her mom learning to do these things for the benefit of her whole family, and many times for her friends. She loved to spend time with her kids and grandchildren watching them grow and learn, and always made time for her friends, no matter what was going on in her life – she made our memories of times together just that much more special.

Loretta was not only beautiful she was also very smart, and worked with the Provincial Government for over 30 years in the areas of Human Resources and Employment Equity & Diversity, until her retirement in April of 2017.  She attained her Certificate in Public Sector Management from the University of Manitoba in 2010, with a 3.90 GPA.

Loretta enjoyed giving back to her community through volunteering in a variety of positions over the last 20 years such as the Chairperson for the Manitoba Metis Federation’s Winnipeg Local Management Board and the Provincial Management Board, Chairperson for the Willow Park Housing Co-Op Board, Chairperson of the Metis Child, Family and Community Services, Board Member for Inter Provincial Association on Native Employment (IANE), Board Member & Treasurer for Infinity Women Secretariat Inc. and many committees through her work with the province.  Everyone who had the pleasure of working with Loretta knew that she was a hard worker, a fighter of rights and demonstrated compassion – to this day many people remained good friends with her – that in itself demonstrates her spirit, character and care for people, as she was truly loved.

The family would like to thank the medical team of Doctors, Nurses and Health Care Aides for providing mom with special care and compassion during her stay on the Palliative Floor at the St. Boniface Hospital.  We would also like to say a special thank you to Komal Henry, Social Worker at the St. Boniface Hospital and Cori Yakiwchuk, Case Coordinator of the WRHA Palliative Care Program for their kindness and understanding in support of our mom's wishes. Words cannot express our gratitude for the care our mom received.

A Celebration of Loretta's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg located at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road, Winnipeg.  In honour of our mom, we encourage everyone to wear something of a turquoise/green color as part of your attire, as this was her favourite color.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made to Cancer Care Manitoba - Brain Cancer Research Division.

"Mom, although we are all heart broken, we take comfort knowing that you are with loved ones and in God's Eternal care. You will be forever missed and loved."
