NORMAN ROBERT BRANDT

Norman Brandt passed away into the arms of Jesus, December 24, 2017 at the age of 77 years.

Norman was predeceased by his wife Inge Brandt in 2012; parents Fred and Theresa Brandt, and brother Ed Brandt. He is survived by four children Randy (Kathryn) Brandt, Noreen (Rudy) Loewen, Gary Brandt and Greg Brandt and one granddaughter Brooke, of whom he was very proud. He also leaves his nephew Harvey (Raquel) Brandt and niece Marlene Scouten.

Norman Robert Brandt was born October 2, 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He accepted Jesus as his personal saviour in his early years and was baptized at the age of 17.  He was often seen reading his bible and praying at his bedside at home.

​

He received his Master of Science in Entomology and was a teacher for a very short time.  He realized teaching was not something he wanted long term.  Shortly after that he worked for The Canadian Forestry Service, and was laid off just before Christmas.  It was after that, Norman took a job with Agriculture Canada and was there until he retired.

​

His job often took him out of town in the summer to southern Manitoba and other areas.  He would walk up and down potato fields inspecting plants for bugs and diseases.  Often he would take the family along and they would stay in a motel with a pool.  His job even took him as far as Churchill, Manitoba, where he would inspect the ships before they were filled with grain.  This also was a family trip taking the train up north.

Norman loved working in the garden at home.  He would plant tomatoes and flowers early and keep them under lights in the basement.  The garden tomatoes were always huge.

​

Because of his degree in entomology he could identify many insects.  He helped his son Randy with his insect collection for university.

​

One of the highlights in the summer was the family cottage.  He loved fishing.  Early in the morning it was time to get up, have a quick breakfast and go fishing.  The kids and grandpa all went along.  He pulled out many fish in his time – probably fished out the lake.

​

Norman also enjoyed blueberry picking.  This was a family excursion.  Everyone had a container to fill and no one was going back to the cabin until there was plenty.

​

He also enjoyed his morning coffee.  After retirement him and Inge would often be at Salisbury House enjoying breakfast with a cup of coffee.  After Inge’s passing he continued to go and have coffee with his buddies.  This was a social outing for him.

​

Norman was a great dad but also a friend.  He would often call his children during the day just to see how their day was going.  These phone calls will be missed.

​

During the last few months of his illness he was able to be at home with the help of his son, Greg.  He was blessed by some special people – the nurse who prayed for him and left a bible verse by his bedside “Fear not for I have redeemed you.”  Also a home care worker that he enjoyed visiting with and she gave of her time.  He loved listening to Gaither videos in his bedroom and would crank the volume.  Memories were made in that bedroom.

Norman passed away December 24th, 2017 in the morning and spent Christmas in Heaven with Jesus.  He will be sadly missed.

“Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge will award to me on that day.”

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2017 at the Concordia Avenue Church of God, 705 Concordia Avenue at Grey Street. A graveside service and interment will take place at 11:30 a.m. (on the same day) in Elmwood Cemetery. Those in attendance should gather at the Beatrice Street entrance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Concordia Avenue Church of God or to the Salvation Army.
