RICHARD WAYNE "DICK" BRASHER

September 23, 1950 - April 12, 2021

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father Richard Wayne Brasher.  He passed away at Grace Hospital on Monday April 12, 2021.

He was predeceased by his father Richard Senior and his mother Marie.  Richard is survived by his daughter Tara (Chris); son Jason; sister Susan (Martin); and his nieces, Madi and Emma. Richard will be deeply missed by his number-one grandson Spencer (Darielle).

Like his father, Richard worked his entire career at Canadian National Railway.  He made lifelong friends there and through his involvement with the Manitoba Street Rod Association.  The family would also like to acknowledge best friends Larry and Marilyn Stubbe, dear neighbours Chris and Lloyd Smith, Kathy Holst, Dave and Roxanne Hislop for their endless care and concern.  Dad loved all of his extended family and especially appreciated the knowledge and humour of his niece Colette.

In his retirement Richard enjoyed golfing, working on many projects, playing drums in various bands and spending time with his family.

A private cremation has taken place and due to COVID-19 restrictions a celebration of life will occur at a later time. In the meantime, Richard’s family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

The family also wishes to thank Richard’s doctors, nurses, hospital staff, Manitoba Home Care staff, and everyone at CancerCare Manitoba for their dedicated work.

In lieu of flowers, Richard asked that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Dad’s last wish was to tell all friends and family, “See you soon.  Hugs and Kisses”.

Puff, When Spencer brought me into the family 2 years ago, you welcomed me with open arms in to the family. I will never forget your 70th birthday when you stopped the party just to introduce me to all your friends because you said someone special had shown up ❤ I will miss our Sunday visits, teaming up against Spencer - to make fun of him of course 😂.  I know how proud you were of Spencer and what he meant to you! My promise to you is to always take care of your number 1 grandson❤❤ A big family staple is gone😢💔 I will miss you and Love You Puff❤ Mom, Chris and Jay, my heart is broke for you guys, I am always here for you, I love you guys forever ❤

My cousin Rich was a colourful character; always ready with his great sense of humour. His love for his family and friends were always apparent. May your fond memories give you solace as you mourn his loss.

I known Dick for many years first meeting him in Montreal. Little did I know at that time I would every be moving to Winnipeg were I got to work with him in Transcona and later Symington. He was a Great guy and will surely be missed by his family and friends.

Uncle Rick could be counted on to "tell me like it is" and with hindsight he was usually right.   One of my favorite memories was when my mischievous brother Greg "bopped" uncle on the nose to wake him up....he awoke from a deep snoring sleep that startled Greg and I and instantly shared in laughter with us. He was one of a kind and will be dearly missed. Love to the family. Lance

Dick and my friendship goes back over 50 years.  We worked as pipefitters at the CN where we enjoyed many an adventure.  Later we were both members of the MSRA and would socialize at many car events.  I particularly enjoyed MSRA dinners with Dick and his grandson, Spencer.  He was always friendly and was great company.   Then we entered the  golfing chapter in our lives.  Dick was very hard on golf balls, sending many into the bush at Giroux.  Another friend, Jack Anderson, and I would collect golf balls and the next time golfing would present Dick with enough to keep him in ammunition. He was always grateful.  One of those reclaimed balls made it to the green one day for a hole in one! Lots of celebration that day.  Dick,  you were a good friend and we miss you. Condolences to Dick's family.

Dick was one of the founding members of the Classic Embers. His dedication to the band and passion for playing will always be adored. For all of us past and present Classic Ember band mates we are wishing him bon voyage to that gig / golf game / classic car meet in the sky. He will be missed but never forgotten.

I loved playing with Dick years ago when the Embers first started out. He helped us get my father's 57 Chev in the Rod-O-Rama show. He's always been a class A guy. A great friend. Even years later he surprised me at my 50th birthday. That was very special and will never forget it. Gonna miss ya bud.

This is a tough one. I played with Dick for years in the Classic Embers., alongside my dad and brother. The name of the band was based on M-B-R: McGinity, Bayne and Richard. Dick was the driving force of that band, and although I subbed behind the kit from time to time, that throne was always his. He pushed me to be better in that band. And it was very clear, when he hit the stage he was putting on a show. I always had to step up my A game and remember to treat the audience with respect. I saw that respect extend beyond the stage. Everyone he spoke to, everyone he met for the first time, he treated those people with respect. I am going to miss you, Dick.
