Sergeant (Retired)
KEITH G. H. BRINE

MStJ, CD

August 5, 1958 - January 4, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we say our final goodbyes to Keith G. H. Brine, who passed away suddenly on 4 January 2025. Keith is survived by his wife, Diane Brine (Peck); his daughter Christina; his sons, Andrew (Kyrstin) and Patrick; three grandchildren, Edison, Oliver, and Matilda. He is also survived by his brothers, Derrick (Anna) and Steven; sisters, Gwen MacPherson, Charlett Brine, and Kathy (Jerry) Marriott. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Gordon and Theresa Brine.

Keith was originally from Halifax, NS before joining the Canadian Armed Forces (Army) which took him to Greenwood NS, then Lahr West Germany, Borden ON, Calgary AB, Winnipeg MB and Borden ON again before returning to Winnipeg. It was in Greenwood, where he met Diane, his spouse of 41 years and started their journey together. Keith was not a traveller, but still ended up visiting every province in Canada and would get to visit the Battlefields of Europe, return to Croatia, and recently travelled to Australia.

While serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, Keith, a Material Technician, served in the Former Yugoslavia (April to October 1993) with the Second Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, and was part of the Canadian contingent that was involved in the Battle of Medak Pocket. He was awarded the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) Medal for his service during this time. In 1997, Keith transferred to the Reserve Force in Winnipeg serving with 38 Service Battalion until his retirement from the CAF when he finally handed in his combat boots for the last time in 2011.

Never one to just sit around, Keith loved to tinker and work with his hands. Upon his retirement from the CAF, he worked at St. Charles Country Club, Arne’s Welding, Pallister Furniture, Air Canada / Aveos (Winnipeg and Toronto Pearson), and Winnipeg School Division, before finally retiring for good from St. Boniface Hospital.

As if being the father to three children wasn’t enough, Keith spent many hours volunteering as a T-ball and soccer coach for his children, even finding the time to become a football and soccer referee. As the children grew older, Keith would be found volunteering with Skate Canada - Manitoba, the Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre, St. John’s Ambulance (where he accumulated over 750 hours of service), and finally with the Canadian Red Cross. In 2013, while volunteering with St. John’s Ambulance, Keith was accepted as a Member of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem.

A celebration of Keith's life will be held in August. In Memoriam donations to the Canadian Red Cross Society in Keith's memory are gratefully accepted, a reflection of his lifelong dedication to giving back to the community.

A great soul serves everyone all the time.

A great soul never dies.

It brings us together again and again.

I had the pleasure of volunteering with Keith the last 3 years for a Skate Canada event where he organized the airport arrivals of officials from across Canada and shuttled them to and from the competition. He quietly and efficiently went about his duties. I enjoyed catching up with him in during breaks. My deepest condolenses to Diane and your family.
