DAVID BROWN
July 15, 1964 - November 30, 2021
It is with incredible sadness that we must say farewell to David, Dave, Big Dave, Son, Brother, Husband, Papa, Uncle and Stepdad.
David was predeceased by his father Charles in 1998, Grandparents William & Sophie Lozenko, and John and Mabel Brown, and Uncle William Edward Lozenko.
He will be remembered, loved, and missed by his Mother Shirley, his brother Clifford (Clarissa) and his wife Elaine, stepson’s Jeremy (Sarah), Andreau (Ashley), and granddaughters Emma & Everley, nephews Alexander & Nicholas and countless other family and friends.
David was born into a Military family in Winnipeg, MB, on July 15th, 1964, at Misericordia Hospital.
David was a man with a huge heart, he loved his family deeply. Family included so many people he met and made friends with from all different walks of life over the years.
David traveled with his parents in the early years of his life as military families do, he spent his junior high days through to graduation from Sturgeon Heights Collegiate in Winnipeg.
He had friends from childhood on up he stayed connected with all these years. Too many to mention, but you know who you are.
Anyone who knew Dave, knew how much he loved to ride. Riding was his passion. He called it his wind therapy. He took immense pride in keeping his bike clean and very shiny.
He loved participating in the Ride for Dad every year. He always enjoyed riding with friends and Sunday night cruise night. He loved his brothers and sisters in the riding community.
This is where he met Richard Engelman, he considered Richard his best friend. It was a true blessing to have a friendship like they had.
David AKA Hans/Smegmahammer loved his carney life. He shared countless stories of life as a carney. He spent 10+ years of his life traveling all over with the Carnival.
He and Will had the nicknames Hans and Frans. Will Busch became like a brother to David while working together at the fair and they were close friends to the end.
David had so much fun working with the carnival and made incredible lifelong friendships with so many good people.
He spoke very fondly of the many people he worked with over the years and told of many nicknames given to people.
He was very proud to run the machine gun game and took pride in how it looked. But he took pride in everything he did, that is just the kind of man he was.
David really enjoyed working at Princess Auto, his favourite department to work in was Surplus. No one kept that department as nice as he did, (Just my opinion).
He took pride in his work and loved his customers. He loved doing silly things to make his coworkers laugh. Right up till a few months ago, he said he wished he had the strength to go back.
He made some wonderful friendships at Princess Auto and really missed the team. He held a special place in his heart for Mary and Paul, but also many others. He had customers that would always look for him when needing advice on something. He took pleasure in helping his customers.
David was an amazing Maintenance man for the St. Regis Hotel downtown, and The Howard Johnson in St. James. He could fix anything.
He also bounced at those hotels, as well as others such as the Big A, (Gordon Hotels) where he met Elaine.
A few years later they started building a friendship that turned into a love for each other. That love grew stronger, and Dave had the family he never knew he wanted. He loved Elaine's boys, Jeremy and Andreau, like his own. He loved their spouses Sarah and Ashley as well. But most of all he loved Emma, his precious granddaughter. She melted his heart. He cherished his time with Emma. He loved to hear her call him Papa. He was a wonderful Papa, always willing to play a game or do silly things to make Emma laugh. Many trips to Dollarama were had by the two of them.
When we found out Emma was going to be a big sister, Dave was very excited. He told us he was not going to leave this earth before meeting her, and he did just that!
He was so happy he was able to hold our newest granddaughter Everley Rey in August. It was a very emotional day we will never forget.
Thank you to all the extremely Precious Nurses, Health Care Aids and Doctors at Riverview Health Center for all the tender loving care and kindness you gave to Dave and his family. We cannot begin to tell you how deeply you have touched our hearts seeing how much you genuinely care for your patients and their families. You are angels on earth.
If you would like to donate in honour of Dave’s memory, please donate to Cancer Care of Manitoba, Riverview Health Center, or any charity of your choice.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date sometime in the spring when his brothers and sisters in the riding community can surround him one last time with the roar of the bikes he so loved to hear.
David Brown, you will never be forgotten. We all love you so much and will forever miss you.
You left a void in our hearts.
Until we meet again.
Love, your family.
I heard your voice in the wind today and I turned to see your face.
The warmth of the wind caressed me as I stood silently in place.
I felt your touch in the sun today as its warmth filled the sky.
I closed my eyes for your embrace and my spirit soared high.
I saw your eyes in the windowpane as I watched the falling rain.
It seemed as each raindrop fell it quietly said your name.
I held you close in my heart today, it made me feel complete.
You may have passed....but you are not gone,
you will always be part of me.
As long as the sun shines, the wind blows, the rain falls.
You will live on inside of me forever, for that is all my heart knows.
