ISAAC ALBERT BROWN

September 14, 1932 – May 29, 2025

Isaac Albert Brown died as peacefully as he lived on May 29, 2025. Bert was well loved among those whom he knew.

He was predeceased by his wife Doris; daughter Lois; son Phillip; and brothers, Louis, Arnold, David; a sister Harriett; as well as his parents, Isaac Jacob and Katherine (Hamm). He leaves to mourn daughters, Ruth Gibeault, Deborah Lavoie, Miriam Brown-Dysart; sons, Daniel and James; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was born in September 1932, and grew up on the family farm near Winkler Manitoba. He chose teaching as his first career, and it brought him to York Factory where he met the love of his life and future wife and developed a lifelong passion for life in Canada’s north. His strong Mennonite tradition influenced him greatly and as a second career he became a pastor, ministering the gospel to congregations in the northern regions of Ontario, Manitoba, and Alberta. When that came to an end, he used his skills in carpentry to embark on a third career. Throughout his life, the skills and way of life learned on the farm were what he used to feed his family, to persevere amid uncertainty and to live the lifestyle he loved.

Photography was something constant throughout his life, and through this we have some long- lasting memories of the people and places he encountered. He didn’t let a lack of equipment stop him, he learned to develop and print his own slides and photos using an improvised darkroom.

His true passion was his belief in God and throughout his life this was a comfort to him, and more importantly he used this to help any who came to him for support. When his body failed him, his phone provided that link to continue in this ministry.

Bert will be remembered by many.

Bert’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
