JOHN EDWARD BROWN

September 14, 1931 – January 30, 2026

John Edward Brown passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the age of 94.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Louise Anne Brown. He is survived by his three children: Judy (Mike Carcasole) of New Hamburg, Ontario; Doug (Valerie) and Michael (Monica) of Winnipeg. John's legacy continues through his five grandchildren: Amy (Steve), Adam (Breanne), Alexandra Carcasole (Roman), Jonathan Carcasole (Danielle), and Keith Brown, and five great-grandchildren: Vera Chubaty, Roger Chubaty, Sullivan Brown, Mia Godunok, and Brianna Carcasole.

John grew up on Ferry Road in St. James, one of seven children. He would outlive them all, and in doing so, surpassed the family's "Brown curse," which had set the bar at 92. His grandfather, his father, and three of his sisters had all made it to 92 and stopped there. John made it to 94.

He built his career in sales at McGavin's Toastmaster, where he spent most of his working life. Summers meant the lake: years of camping at Nutimik and at Arnold's on the Lee River. When retirement came, he and Louise pointed the house trailer west, east, and everywhere between, taking in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, and Montreal. Winters they spent warm in Apache Junction, Arizona, where John got in his golf. Their final chapter brought them to Saint Michael's Villa in Transcona, where he found a good life in a smaller space: billiards, good company, and no shortage of friends.

Cremation has taken place. John's ashes have been placed alongside Louise's at Transcona Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice.

He lived on his own terms, loved the people beside him, and left when he was good and ready.

Ninety-four years, pilgrim.

Not bad.

A wonderful obituary for a life well lived. When we held a service for my Dad, Pat McEvoy, who died in 1998, John attended and introduced himself to me as Pat's best friend growing up in old St. James. I wish I had followed up and asked more questions. I am wondering if you might have pictures of John and my Dad from early days? My email is mpmcevoy1@gmail.com. Many thanks.
