Maisie Brown

MAISIE M. M. BROWN
July 28, 1924 - July 1, 2025
Peacefully, in the early morning of July 1, 2025, Maisie Brown went home to heaven. She was “100 years young”; just shy of her 101st birthday.
Maisie is survived by her sister Gertrude Miller of Jamaica and many other relatives in Jamaica, the U.K. and the U.S.
She was the daughter of Felix and Jane White (née Boreland) of Alderton, St. Ann, Jamaica and was predeceased in 2007 by her husband Benjamin Brown.
Maisie is also survived by her five children: Noel Brown (Debbie), Marcia Brown, Roxroy Brown, Sandra Doell (James) and Melody Brown. Three granddaughters were her pride and joy: Tara Anderson (Chris), Amy Pankewich (Joel) and Taylor Brown. Two great-grandsons, Benjamin and Harris, will further carry Maisie’s legacy.
What can we say about the force of nature that was our Mom, Sister, Auntie, Grandmother and Great Grandmother?
Determination, resourcefulness and resilience were her watchwords.
In May 1971 she packed up her five children and joined her husband in Plum Coulee, and then Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Maisie and Ben were sponsored by two brilliant and generous Canadians who saw how hard Mom and Dad worked and knew they would do well in Canada.
In the intervening 50+ years, Maisie worked every day of her life to nurture, love and uplift her family, and she set the standard for excellence in all our endeavours.
Maisie faithfully attended Calvary Temple Church in Winnipeg (via YouTube in the latter years) and was proud to make regular monthly donations to further worthy causes.
She savoured the simple pleasures of life; watching golf on television and smiling as she gave advice to the players on the screen. She was a “carnivore” and when we drove through the bucolic Southern Manitoba countryside, she would see wild deer and think immediately of her freezer.
Maisie was a conscientious citizen, keeping abreast of current affairs and taking pride in voting in elections at all levels, including in the 2025 federal election.
Mom was famous for her tenacity – some believe it was the key to her longevity. “Do I have to take these pills again?”, she would ask. When we occasionally relented, she would throw up her arms and yell “Freedom!”
We thank Dr. Karen Klym who for two decades provided Mom with excellent care and consistently advocated on her behalf.
Rest well Mommy, Sister, Auntie,
Grandma, Great Grandma,
you have earned it!
We will proudly honour your memory.
A private burial has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Temple Church, Winnipeg.
Maisie’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Rest in sweet peace Mrs. Brown🙏I was really looking forward to talking with you on my visit to Winnipeg from Jamaica this year, but it was not to be. I will forever remember your smile and the times we had. Blessings to your family and comfort always.

When I saw " Mrs Brown's" photo, it took me back to my days in high school when I first came to your home Noel and met your mom. Her eyes and smile still sparkled after all of these years.
What a beautiful lady.

Maisie was our next door lady living with her daughter Marcie. She was the most enjoyable lady, and we had a very soft spot in our heart for Maisie. When she would walk the hall for exercise using her walker, I would tell her we will have a race while I was recovering from knee replacements. This would always bring that warm smile she shared so many times. Just a very lovely lady♥️.

My delightful memory of Maisie is her enjoying meat. When she learned that Wes was a farmer, her first question -do you/will you have goats? lol! She did love her meat!!
She was such a spunky woman! Our condolences to the entire family.
