CAROL BUCHANAN

1946 - 2022

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carol Ann Buchanan (née Pike) after losing her battle cancer. With family by her side, Carol passed away at the age of 75 just days before her upcoming birthday.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Robert; her children Ken (Michelle) and Robin (Bobby); her grandchildren Kyle (Madison) and Conner; and step grandchildren Emma and Kimberly.

The most important part of Carol’s life was her family. Being a parent and a grandparent brought so much joy to her life. She loved socializing with friends, cooking for all and celebrating birthdays and holidays with those important to her. Carol was a very loving, generous, positive person with the kindest heart. She never judged people for their mistakes, never spoke badly about anyone and always found the good in people.

Carol has called Charleswood home for 74 years. She attended Royal School and Charleswood Collegiate where she met the love of her life Bob at the age of 15. They lived together in their house on Community Row for 40 years and then re-located to Vasa Lund Estates. Carol was also a part of the social committee with her social sisters where she lived and loved going to “happy hour” with her friends there. Carol loved her crafts and hobbies of paper tolling and ceramics. She was also a long time member of Charleswood Legion, the Charleswood Curling Club and the Charleswood Historical Society. She also never missed a game for her kids or grandkids. She loved going to watch all their sporting events. She also loved to travel. Many trips she went on included, Europe, Mexico, Dominican, Cuba, USA and Canada.

Carol and Bob purchased their cabin at Falcon Lake in 1983 which has served like a second home to them. They spent all their summers there. They often got together and visited with their extended lake family on the deck and the dock for BBQ’s and drinks. She was always up for a good card game of Ding, Crib or Canasta with family and friends. She also loved having fresh pickerel fish fry dinners at the lake. Carol loved elephants. She had pictures and figures all over her home. Their size, memory, loyalty, strength and gentle nature were characteristics that she admired.

The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and staff at the Concordia Hospital as well as the West Park Manor in Charleswood for their care and compassion. We would like to also thank all the friends and family for all the visits with her, the love, the support and food given during this time. It was so greatly appreciated.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at the Charleswood Legion, May 14, 2022, 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your charity of choice on her behalf.

Carol's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives check back next week for a Photo Tribute Video.

My sister, Carol (nee Weitman) Coutts shared with me the sad news of Carol's passing. The "Carols" were a force to be reckoned with on Royal Road in Charleswood where we grew up. They were hardly ever apart and have remained close friends throughout their whole lives. From myself and my family, I  send our condolences and strength to Carol's family and friends.

My deepest sympathies to the family with your loss.  My family have known and been close to the Buchanans for decades.  The Buchanan's are a part of my Charleswood past.  My Grandparents were the best of friends in fact lived on the same street so I remember visiting and petting Bob's sister's horse :).  I used to bike ride from my house with my father to visit them when I lived on Haney such fun.  As an adult it was always so refreshing to go to the Charleswood Curling Club Anniversary or some sort of social and seeing Carol ass she was so nice. She always had a smile it was just so warming and welcoming to see her and I looked forward to that.  I would always volunteer to pick up my parents yearly from the Buchanan's after a social event and visit well into the night.  Carol Rest In Peace.  You will be missed ❤ Sincerely,  Louise Henry

Bob, Robin, Ken and Family Members We were saddened to hear about Carol's passing and although you had told us about her condition, we still had high hopes that she would somehow beat the odds. She was obviously a real fighter and tried hard to stay with her cherished family. Your wife, mother, Granny and In - law was an open book and what you saw is what you got whenever in her presence. Friendly, cheerful, welcoming, caring and on top of that she was a heck of a bar tender. It was a pleasure to hear her voice when she would ask how we were doing even from 4 docks to our west. She simply cared about people and that was great. You guys are a wonderful family. Fred and Laureene W
