THOMAS ANTHONY BUDNIK

March 20, 1934 – October 22, 2020

On October 22, 2020 after a brief stop at the St Boniface Hospital and with his family at his side, Tom’s sudden illness allowed him to move on to his next adventures.

Born to Anthony and Clara (Kuz), in Winnipeg, he was the middle child, with older, (Marge) and younger (Carole) sisters.

His younger years were spent in the atmosphere of his parents' home filled with, laughter, music, family, and friends.  Simple family life instilled values of compassion, forgiveness, understanding, courage, and loyalty, these strong character traits endeared him to countless family and friends throughout his life.

Tom’s successes with school studies fostered business skills which opened a career for him in hotel/hospitality management including; the CP Royal Alexedra Hotel (Winnipeg, Manitoba), CP Banff Springs Hotel (Banff Alberta) and the Sildor Ballroom (Winnipeg, Manitoba).  His adventures and experiences with: movie stars, politicians, travelers from other countries, hotel staff and guests were the substance of legendary stories shared fondly with family, friends, (including spellbound young boys), over his lifetime.

Never married, Tom was a professional bachelor, popular, charming and a true gentleman throughout his life.

Tom loved fishing, reading and people.  He spent many a day (summer and winter) taking his nephews fishing throughout Manitoba when they were young, memories they think of often and warmly.

In his retirement his focus shifted to helping stray cats near his home and everyday fed and watered the many which had been abandoned, including “Sport”, whom he adopted and remained his companion who misses him dearly.

I worked for s summer under TOMMY at the Royal Alex. He was patient and kind for a beginner. I would answer the telephone to BLAST from the Chief Housekeeper MISS Kelly. When she stopped I replied. "Its Wray Miss Kelly, Tommy has stepped away for a moment" Oh! Is it you dear? How is   Da? I replied he was fine. "Will you see him this weekend? "Yes, Miss Kelly: Well give him my love" I. will. When TB returned I said the wicked witch on '2'' called for you. A great experience.

Tommy was my godfather and never a better godfather you could have! Up until my 21 birthday he would give me a present every time I saw him! A very gentle man. I saw him at various times as I was growing up when I spent time at my baba ‘s home ( Mary Budnik ) where he was a frequent visitor. My only regret was that I didn’t keep in touch with him over the past years as he made a significant impact on my life!😢
