JOAN FLORENCE BUTLER

May 3, 1928 - February 15, 2022

Joan Florence Butler born May 3, 1928, died peacefully on February 15, 2022. She was born to Harry Bertrum Butler and Jessie Maude Butler. She resided in Winnipeg all her life, living in the West End and North Kildonan, her final home for the past three and a half years was West Park Manor.

She worked at ADP in her later years and made many friendships there. She attended John Black United Church. She was very bright right to the end. Her face lit up with new Sudoku and crossword books finishing even the most difficult puzzles. Her schooling was very limited, but she had a very proud moment obtaining her Grade 12 certificate at the age of 45. She loved to travel and went to World Figure Skating Championships, holidays in Florida, and attended many weddings of her nieces and nephews and extended family.

She is survived by her last remaining brother, Raymond, and his wife, Doreen, in Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her siblings Lillian (Ron), Helen (Danny), Cyril (Mary), Gordon (Irene), and Bert (Ada).

Aunt Joan, as she was known to most - relative or not, loved her family and knew all the birthdays and wedding dates. She was an encyclopedia on all family matters.

She would make a special thank you to her niece Janis (Philip) for their care in her final years. Also to the St. Catherines, ON crew who made two visits to her during her stay at West Park Manor. She lived a long happy life and was loved, which is all most of us can hope for. She never complained of her circumstances and made the most of every day. Love you lots, Aunt Joan.

Beautiful pictures! So many wonderful memories of Auntie Joan! As so many have commented, she was the keeper of the family tree and always wanted to hear about what everyone was up to. Her Christmas visits were always something we looked forward to. Always in our heart.❤️

Remembering all the good times spent with her, Grandma and Grandpa on Ashburn. She truly was the keeper of the family tree. She will be sorrowfully missed by all.

I worked with Joan in Eaton’a Data Centre, in the 70’s.  She was a friendly and caring lady.  I often thought about her and still make her famous ‘Pineapple  Delight’, to great reviews, which I always stated who shared this recipe with me. She holds a special place in my heart.   God speed my friend🙏😔❤️   Marlene Kuleza

What a great lady!  She visited her Ontario family every year for many years after Grandma passed away, and wowed us with her memory of all the nieces nephews, parents, and family history. She was especially proud of being able to name all the USA states, and was able repeat them in alphabetical order. She had a great sense of humor, We miss her dearly.

Fortunately, I was able to have a wonderful lunch date with Aunt Joan when I was attending a conference in Winnipeg.  She met me downtown after coming close on a bus and we went to a restaurant for lunch.  Sharp as a tack she mentioned all her siblings, wives, children and families and proudly told me that she starts each day ‘remembering’ all of the clan.  I am sure we all felt that love over the past years.  She sprinkled her love over us all! Thank the closer clan members for looking after her so well.  I wish we had been closer.

What a beautiful tribute!  Evoked some lovely albeit emotional moments.  She was a lovely, kind and wonderful person.  Although she was 1 of 7 - she always stood out in a crowd and was loved so very much.  Thanks for putting this together.  Thanks Janis for being her guardian angel.  You were absolutely the best person for the task!  ❤

Such wonderful memories of Auntie Joan's visits both here in BC and also in Ontario.  She made a point of meeting all her great nieces and nephews over time.   We were truly blessed ❤

Fond memories of a wonderful lady.  Especially remembering her last visit to the west coast about 10 years ago which included an absolutely delightful Vancouver Island road trip to visit the Port McNeill crew.  She exuded love!❤
