WAYNE LEON BYARD

May 21, 1956 - Mar 16, 2021

It is with tremendous sorrow and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Wayne Byard on March 16/21 months before his 65th birthday. He passed away surrounded by his wife Aggie & sister in law Louise after a short battle with cancer.

Born in East Preston, N.S,  he was the son of the late James & Hattie Byard. Wayne is survived by his wife/partner of 30 years Aggie Fortin, he also leaves behind his three children: Stephanie (Alex) and two grand children, Jasmine (Joey) and two grand children & Nathan and three grand children.

Wayne also leaves behind 11 brothers and sisters which he loved very much, Doris, Dolly, Willie (Marilyn), James Jr. (Louise), Glenda (Paul), Theresa, Gordie (Lorna) Dean, June, Joan & David (Lynn) and lots of nieces & nephews who will miss their uncle.

Wayne grew up in Sudbury and had a lot of friends, he was never happier then when he was having a beer and hanging with his buddies and making everyone laugh. It didn’t matter where he went he always knew someone. Wayne was also one of the best vehicle detailer you could ever meet, it didn’t matter how nasty the vehicle was when he was finished detailing it was like a new vehicle.

He loved watching his HABS and to fish and golf and like trying new recipes. He also enjoyed spending time with his father and mother in law Dan & Elaine when the guys would go golfing and talk hockey while the ladies would go shopping.

Wayne was looking forward to retiring and moving to Elliot Lake with his wife Aggie where they would be fishing and golfing all the time.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will take place in Sudbury at a later date. In the meantime, Wayne’s family kindly requests that all his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honor his memory by watching the photo-biography above.

Miss Me – But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room!

Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little – but not too long

And not with your head bowed low,

Remember the love that we once shared

Miss me – but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take

And each must go alone;

It's all a part of the master's plan

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me – but let me go.

While Wayne passed in 2021 I'm just learning of this now and my heart is saddened.  Wayne was a friend in Winnipeg in the early 1980s.  It was easy and fun to be around him.  We played hockey, went to concerts, went camping, played pool and more. We'd play some touch football and he would show up with his cleats .... we were awestruck by how fast he could run and then turn on a dime.  We'd listen to Bob Marley and he introduced me to Rick James music.  I can still picture him in his van, doing courier work, and having Rick James up at full volume.  When I was in hospital for broken ankle surgery his visits were greatly appreciated (he was with me when I broke my ankle playing hockey).  I lost touch when I moved away for work in 1982. My condolences to Wayne's family.

My deepest condolences to the Byard family , we the Teale family were friends with yours and although Wayne was 2-3 years older than me he always included me as he and my big brother Tim (whom we lost to cancer Nov.2018) were very close. From high school football to hockey Wayne was the ultimate teammate , but my fondest memories was listening to Fat Albert records in the basement at Fournier Gardens. Wayne also had the distinction of giving me a nickname that I carry today , Bumface , I believe it was because I never had to shave but who knows. His laugh and positivity were infectious, so so long Weiner and give Tim a hug for us would ya. Dan Teale and family

On behalf of Billy, myself and our entire family, we send our deepest, heartfelt condolences to Aggie , the children, grandchildren, Waynes' siblings, cousins and friends. I didn't have the opportunity to get to know Wayne on a personal level as they had moved away a long time ago and that's alright, I know that he was a part of my family and was loved by so many!!! Rest in eternal peace cousin and ask God to keep an eye on us and help us on our journey as He did you....!! Juanita Norton and Family

My sincere condolences to Aggie and Wayne whom I have known both since Dazzles, The Pres...and Dangerous Dans'. Unfortunately, I did not get to meet up with Jubal and Wayne when I was in Winterpeg with the Military, but somehow Wayne and Aggie loved the city, casino and staying low key. My hat off to the both of them for surviving the Windy city! To the Byard family, my deepest symapthy as well, for losing a family member is very emotional and a mental struggle. Wayne always had a smile when I would shoot pool with him at the Coulson, as he always knew he was taking my money lol in every game. We all drifted apart as we moved away from Sudbury when I hung out with Dean, but the memories will always be present to share.  May your Soul Rest in Peace Wayne.  Craig Hartley,

Dear Aggie & Family, I am so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing.  I have so many great memories of you guys when we worked together in Sudbury, and the great times we had when we visited you in Winnipeg.  I shed some tears watching the video, because even though we haven't seen each other much over the years, I think of you both often.  Keep Wayne in your heart Aggie, I know he loved you so much, you two were definitely inseparable.  I'm glad you enjoyed so many happy years together, that's so rare these days.  Treasure those memories, my friend.  Love always, Jen

My big brother will always be here as long as we keep up with ‘the remember when..’ stories.  He had a lot of them himself and he remembered everyone’s name. He was very comfortable with his present life with his best friend and wife Aggie. You took care of him till the end Aggie and May God bless you for that. He was very lucky to have you. When I went to see him on his last days, we joked about how often Dad would look at Wayne and shake his head when we were up to no good even though sometimes I was the instigator lol. 😇And he took it for his little brother. Thanks bro. I’ll forever cherish the times we spent together either out fishing with Pops or at a family get together. He could either drive me crazy or crack me up. Either way, he’s my brother, I’ll miss him immensely. Rest In Peace as Daddy’s shaking his head up there saying “Really mama, this boy won’t leave me alone will he lol 😂 😂 Love David Wayne was Mr. Boisterous. I am grateful for the countless memories over the years. Whether we were playing games, camping or just visiting, smiles and laughter filled the room and Wayne’s infectious laugh flowed. We will miss you Wayne. Without Wayne we would not have met Aggie-thank you for always being you Aggie❤ Love Lynn.

I remember one night in a bar in Sudbury where ❤❤these two guys came in who wanted to do a number on my little big brother. I told them that the only one here who can hit my brother is me and if they ever talk that way or gain I would bury them. There were many times I wanted to hit Wayne but we always work things out. The last moment I got to talk to him what is the most heartfelt loving moment I’ve ever had with my brother. As I wipe the tears from my eyes as I am writing this, I will miss my little brother and wish that he was still here so I can have someone to blame when I do something wrong. I love you so much Wayne. Take care of mom, dad, Jubal and Wanda for me while you’re up there.

Wayne and Aggie first came to my camp in NWOnt some years ago.  He was the happiest friendliest person and I knew right away this was a beautiful couple that I was happy to know.  Always laid back, always a laugh, no comment on how big his stringer was, but that didn’t matter.  Love, friendship and happiness was where it was at.

My little brother is missed. We lived in different places but a phone call always made me smile. he had the talent to make everyone laugh. My mental visual is seeing you and Daddy and Roger with your fishing poles heading for the lake. Aggie was his angel, and his happiness was due to his love for her and their best friendship. God keep you little brother, and I will see you on the other side. Much love!
