BEVERLEY CAMERON

Peacefully, on Sunday, May 20th after a short but hard-fought battle, Beverley Cameron passed away at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by her loving family.

Beverley is survived by her husband David Cameron; son Guy Leakey and Grant Leakey (Bich); daughters Lori Gunnlaugson (Derrick) and Kelly McIntosh (John); grandchildren Jeff Leakey, Ryan Leakey (Carly), Brianne Leakey (Chris), Taylor Leakey, Ainsley Espenell (Norm), Jill Gunnlaugson (Jason), Derek Gunnlaugson (Brittany), Laura McIntosh (Terrence), Evan McIntosh, and Jessie. Beverley also leaves to mourn nine great-grandchildren (Payton, Parker, Kamryn, Sydney, Jordyn, Brenden, Rylen, Logan and Lucas) as well as her sister Diane Bates and brother George Hossack, as well as numerous other relatives and honourary family members Carlos, Loan and Rosie Cotton

Beverley is predeceased by her parents George and Mary Hossack, and grandson Scott McIntosh.

Beverley was born in Winnipeg in 1939 and lived most of her life there, with the exception of several years spent in Coquitlam, B.C. Upon returning to Winnipeg from B.C., they lived in St. Vital for a few years before moving to Elm Creek, MB where they have spent the last nearly-20 years enjoying small-town life close to their youngest two children.

Beverley’s passing came too soon, and she leaves behind devastated family members who are trying to come to terms with not being able to see her or speak to her again. She was the epitome of a homemaker. Bev’s door was always open for visitors and she was a gracious host at all times. A wonderful cook and a fantastic baker, she loved swing music, gardening and crafting, although she would drop anything for a good cup of coffee and some chitchat. She enjoyed watching sports, in particular hockey and football, with her two favourite teams being The Winnipeg Jets and the Blue Bombers.  Bev was also an animal lover who could never turn away a stray. In her younger years, she and David loved to travel. Most of all, Bev loved her family; she was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of much joy and pride for her throughout her life. Affectionately known as ‘Mummer’ to her grandkids, some of their best childhood memories were of family dinners with delicious food and lots of laughs. Sleeping over at Mummer’s was a regular occurrence and something to be excited about because she absolutely doted on them.

Bev always put on a brave face for her family, but her last couple years were tough. The end came quickly, but even so, Bev fought valiantly, and held on until all her kids were with her. We are thankful that we were able to be with her until her last breath, and that she was comfortable and surrounded by love when she departed. We are truly grateful for the wonderful care she received while in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre in the days before her passing. In particular, our family would like to acknowledge her amazing nurses, whose compassion, care and kindness were deeply appreciated. We would also like to thank her attending physicians Dr. Dan Roberts and Dr. Anand Kumar, as well as the many residents and allied health staff involved in her care. Prior to her admission to the Health Sciences Centre, Bev was frequently cared for by many wonderful staff at Carman Hospital whom we would also like to thank.

Bev/Mom/Mummer, you are gone from this earth, but never from our hearts. We love you so much and will miss you terribly…

THE WALTZ TO THE END

We glided across the dance floor of life,

until the finish line was in sight

Now the steps to the waltz have slowed and time has called us to make the preparations

that all must make

So now one must go and one must stay,

that is how it will be

But then the one who now remains, will in memory, sift through the wisps of times that so long ago were etched forever in their memory

And, like an old movie, can be rerun at the bidding, and the years like ripples from a stone cast upon the pond reach back across the span of life to unite the husband and the wife

The one that stays will smile and look forward to their time to leave, and with no fear cross through into the light, and again ask their chosen that so long ago agreed to join in the dance that was called the “Waltz to the End”

As per Bev’s request, there will be no formal funeral service.  Cremation was Bev’s wish, and a private family interment will take place.  Family and friends are invited to join us at a casual gathering on Sunday June 10th at 2:00 pm at the Elm Creek Community Hall.  For those who wish to honour Bev’s memory, please consider a donation to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
