DAVID CAMPBELL

December 23, 1935 – November 20, 2021

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David Watson Penman Izatt Campbell, loving father, brother, and uncle, on November 20, 2021, age 85, at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care.

He is survived by his son David (Renee) in Plantation, Florida; sister Christine (Walter); niece Hannah; as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Cathie; brothers, Harry, Jimmy, John, and Robert; sister Helen; as well as sister-in-laws, Jenny, Joan, and Mary.

David was born in Glasgow, Scotland December 23, 1935, and immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his brothers John and Jimmy. The rest of the family, Helen, Robert, and Christine joined them by 1957 and they all lived together in “the big house” on Lansdowne Avenue. David met Cathie and married in 1964 and were married for 54 years.

David was a skilled Seamster by trade, taught how to make and repair kilts in Scotland and subsequently made quite a few for the dancers in Winnipeg. David began working for Canada Post as a mail carrier in 1965 with a 30 year career, retiring on March 11, 1995.

David was a past member of Capitol Lodge #136 and loved working at the Scottish Pavilion every year and being part of the Scottish community both in Winnipeg and when he came to Florida. David loved his years travelling in their RV with the Wandering Wheels Trailer Club.

David loved to travel, with many cruises and trips to Florida to visit his son with his wife Cathie. After Cathie’s passing, he enjoyed going on casino trips to the USA along with his big trip to Nashville, Branson, Pigeon Forge and Graceland with his niece Hannah in 2019.

David was his son’s team manager and assistant coach when he played hockey at Norberry CC in Winnipeg. David was so proud of his son’s accomplishments in Florida with the Sheriff’s Office and at every opportunity he told whoever he was speaking to about David Jr. He would also brag about his son playing the bagpipes and how much he enjoyed hearing them.

David moved to Riverridge II Assisted living in January 2020, and he loved it there, he spent his days interacting with staff and residents and partaking in many of the activities. He especially enjoyed the bingo games and his movie nights with Hal.

We would like to thank the staff at Riverridge II for making his stay most enjoyable and the kindness shown to David.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a charity of your choice in David’s name.

David’s family kindly requests that all his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honor his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In keeping with David's wishes, cremation has taken place and a family gathering may take place at a later date.

Until we meet again

Dave Sr was a good man - welcoming, quiet at times, and his sense of humour was terrific. I loved the twinkle he’d get in his eyes and his laugh when he found something humorous.  He loved all things Scottish and he also liked the odd Scotch with my sister Glenna when he was in the Florida Keys visiting David and Tracey.  ❤

Will miss seeing him in the halls at River Ridge 2. Such a friendly and funny gentleman. He called my dad “his buddy”. Made my dad smile. He can’t talk, but Dave always made time to talk to him. Condolences to the family.

David I am so sorry to hear about your dad's passing. I used to enjoy when your mom and dad would come to the shop to get your mom's hair done.  The video was a beautiful tribute to both of them. Now they are together again. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.    Bonnie Daley

I will miss you, Dave!  Your giggle, your accent..I’m sad I didn’t get to visit you after you moved, but I loved seeing you in the River Ridge videos.  You’ve earned your rest and I take comfort that you are with Cathie again.  Condolences to the Campbell clan.
