MELODY ANNE CARLSON

August 9, 1967 - November 28, 2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Melody Anne, lovingly known as Melo, at the tender age of 55. She passed peacefully at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit after a long battle with cancer.

Melo is survived by her spouse of 22 years, Kevin Gressman, her siblings Donna (Mark Fillion), Jeff (Liz), niece Nicole (Harlynn May), as well as Kevin's siblings Becky Green, Stephen Gressman, niece and nephew Jacob and Paige Gressman, as well as Karla Berkson, loving friend and grandmother of Jacob and Paige.

Melo and Kevin received great support from many friends throughout the past few years, in particular Sue Heglin, Gerry Suzuki, Trevor Millar, Arlene Peacock (Larry Novadale), Yvonne Ducharme, Susanne Beaudry and many, many others. We'd love to offer them a sincere thank you, as well.

Melo had a committed and outstanding position within the University of Manitoba over the last 35 years, overcoming many obstacles and rising through the ranks to Supervisor within the Utility Caretaker Department.

Everyone who enjoyed spending time with Melo, knew she loved anything and everything Halloween, even so on Christmas;

As we'd love to celebrate her life on her favourite holiday, that is far too long for her loved ones to wait to honour such a cherished life, so please join us for a Celebration of Life at 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Church), at 2:00 PM Friday, May 5, 2023; which falls on the Mexican holiday known as Cinco de Mayo, or please plant some marigolds this May long weekend in honour of Melo, and think of her every so often as they bloom into new life.

Melo was a very kind, intelligent, loving and good humored person. She was an incredibly bright light and she will be sorely missed.

❤ I was very saddened to learn of Melo’s passing. I knew she was fighting a tough battle, and I can only hope and trust she has found peace, free of anymore pain and suffering. I met Melo when we were just young punks, in Junior high. We became fast friends, and had some really fun and really wild times. I have some great memories from my years spent in Melo’s company, and some really personal and difficult ones too. As life would have it, we did go our separate ways for long stretches of time, but whenever we reconnected, it always felt like coming home to a very familiar and kindred spirit. Time and distance did not diminish our bond. Melo was more than my party buddy, (although she loved a good party, and threw quite a few) she was also my confidant, and a trusted friend..Someone I knew I could count on, and someone who always “got me” when it felt like nobody else did. She was a deeply caring soul, and a tell it like it is, no B.S. type of friend! I will miss you Melo, very much, until we meet again! I love you my dear friend ❤️ My heartfelt condolences to Melos family loved ones. ❤

I met Melo while visiting in Winnipeg several years back. Kevin’s brother Bob “DOC” Holliday was my good friend.  Wishing you peace Kevin.  Your love for Mel was obvious.

Melody worked with me at the University.  We were in different departments but she always was so much fun.  She overcame many obsticules over the years but in the end the struggle was too hard and she had to leave us.   You will always be in my thoughts Mel.  RIP till we meet again.❤️💕❤️💕

My dear friend, I love you and I’m so happy I got to spend the day with you before I left. You had the same spirit you always had when I met you when we were teenagers.
