WILLIAM (BILL) GEORGE CARPICK

November 28, 1960 – July 27, 2024

William George Carpick grew up in Northern Manitoba and it’s the place that shaped his heart, spirit, and sense of community. During his life he was fond of fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, and adventuring with his family and friends. Bill died on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 63. In recent years he struggled with health issues but that didn’t stop him from living the best life possible.

Bill’s kindness, intelligence, curiosity, wit, and love of a good story drew him to all sorts of people wherever he went. He excelled at embellishing tales to the delight and amusement of his audiences. His vast knowledge of history and obscure information added to his charm.

Bill was born on November 28, 1960, in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, the second oldest of four children. He was raised in Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids, Manitoba when they were both still isolated communities surrounded by the largely intact Boreal Forest. In his early years he worked in the mining industry in various capacities.

Bill is survived by his dear mother, Eva Carpick; sisters, Betty Carpick, Sheila Pruden (Brian), and Susan Carpick. He is treasured by his nephews and nieces, Matthew Wilkins, Georgia Wilkins, Eden Wilkins, Everett Pruden, John Pruden, Susan Pruden, and Eric Pruden. Bill was predeceased by his father, William Carpick in 1984.

Bill was truly one of a kind. He was well loved and will be missed immensely.

Eva and the family would like to thank our many friends and family for their kindness and generosity to Bill over the years. A special thanks to Brian Templeton for being such a good friend.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ducks Unlimited (attention: The Pas, Manitoba chapter for the Saskatchewan River Delta) or the Canadian Mental Health Association/Across Manitoba. A service in celebration of Bill will be held at a later date.

Bill’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Bill ( Billy) was my good friend from toddler to grade 8 in Lynn lake. The Stoness family often enjoyed Christmas with the Carpick family .I shared a junior trap line with Billy - walking on frozen lakes at -45 with Billy (and dad Bill) is one of my fondest memories. Billy moved to Leaf Rapids in early 1970’s. I often took the greyhound bus to fish and to hang out with Billy and his (and my) close group of friends. Billy was really smart with high energy - and always a friend when you needed one. From very early he was extraordinarily interested in history - particularly WWII. Billy matured to be knowledgeable about history, fishing, hunting and life.

Billy (and the Carpick family) will always live fondly in my memory. Condolences to Mrs Carpick, Betty, Sheila and Susan - hopefully I will be able to visit you soon.

My deepest condolences to the entire family. Hang on tight to each other knowing Bill is at peace now. No more pain. He was definitely one of the good guys from the North. As mention he was a good friend to many and loved good stories. I'm glad Brian would bring him out to our place for our very short but reconnected times over the past couple of years. Rest Easy Bill you will be missed

Sincerely

I love you, Uncle Billy. May you rest peacefully.

I'll miss the suppers we shared at Susan's and when you'd share funny stories with us. You're in my heart.

My condolences to all of Billy's family.

i had a crush on Billy when we were just kids in Lynn Lake. He invited me to a family dinner where I experienced Beaver Stew for the first time. We played together and had a lot of fun. I haven't seen Billy since 1975, but have thought of him often and am thinking of him now. RIP Billy
