RICHARD "AL" CARRUTHERS

It is with great sadness that the family of Al Carruthers announce his peaceful passing on the afternoon of Friday, May 5, 2023 at the age of 78.

Al will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years Marie; his children, Jodi (Bob and Ashley) and Deanna; his only brother Terry (Myrna); his niece Breanne (Jeff and Oliver); his nephew Reagan (Hayley and Caden); together with his extended family in Ontario, British Columbia, and Scotland; and countless friends who were more like family.

Al had a lengthy career as a radio announcer and a short run as a TV weatherman. He was most proud of a media monitoring company he started with two colleagues. Following his retirement, Al most enjoyed heading to the lake to laze around in the pool and be surrounded by his family and friends.

In accordance to Al's wishes there will be no funeral services. Since Al was most proud of his family, and they were very important to him, he would like you to gather with those you love, raise a glass and share memories, especially the funny ones. He will be there with you!

Memorial donations can be made in Al’s name to The Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

Al’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I join many others in Sault Ste Marie and area who remember Al from his time at CJIC radio. My memories of him also include his time at CFCH in North Bay. A gentle, friendly and always ready to help guy I was fortunate to know him.

I am so sorry to hear of Al's passing. Although I didn't see you and Al as much as I would like to have, I do have some very fond memories of him - starting with our visit to North Bay not long after you were married, and more recently in Winnipeg. He was a true gentleman, genuine host, and friend. I will never forget the hospitality both of you extended to Mary Lou and me when we stopped on our way out west. You welcomed us into your home and into your cottage with open arms. I fully appreciate your loss It's like a part of you has been ripped out of you.. Keep your memories alive - that's all helped me cope on a day to day basis - one day at a time. My prayers go out to you and your girls.. May he rest in peace. Cousin Mike

My condolences to the family.  I played with Al and Terry at Grand Beach when we were kids.  Both were the nicest people I was fortunate to meet.  Al had a great sense of humour and will be missed.

I worked with Al for many years at CJOB.  I can still hear his voice, a wonderful guy.  My condolences to Marie and the family.
