TREVOR GEORGE ROSARIO CAYER

October 16, 1981 - September 23, 2020

Mourning the loss of Trevor are his parents, Reginald and Elaine Cayer; his sister Dana (Logan), nieces, Ariel and Erica; sister Tara (Travis), niece Victoria and nephew Owen. He also leaves behind his daughter Jade and her mother Kristin. He will be missed by numerous relatives, friends and his personal care attendants.

Trevor was born and raised in Winnipeg. He was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of three, the prognosis limiting his life expectancy, which he greatly surpassed with strength, determination, and his stubbornness. As a child he had the opportunity to travel with his family to California as part of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, visiting DisneyLand, San Diego Zoo and Universal Studios. At age 15 his disease forced him into a wheelchair which was years past original expectations; however he drove his power chair like a skilled daredevil, going fast, stopping on a dime and tackling rough terrain as it came his way.

Trevor attended school in St. Vital graduating in French Immersion from Collège Jeanne-Sauvé in 2000. He volunteered for many years in a variety of roles including as a DJ at 91.1 FM CKXL hosting his French radio show called "Le champ de patates". He was also very involved with Muscular Dystrophy Canada throughout his lifetime in many different capacities - including as a mentor to many young clients of the MDC family. He worked for nearly a decade as an inbound call centre operator, where he had success as a trainer and telephone representative.

After the birth of his daughter Jade in 2004, he and Kristin married in 2005. In 2014 he made the decision to be trach'ed and ventilated, giving him energy and a renewed vibrancy. Despite the limitations and the daily challenges of having a neuro-muscular disorder he lived independently in his own home. In later years he volunteered teaching PCA's through the PACE program at IRLC. Trevor was surprised for his 34th birthday with a trip to Las Vegas, where he visited the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and came home excited to show off a new tattoo.

Trevor had a love of exotic pets, from his green iguana "Morty", his budgies, an albino hedgehog, desert iguanas, puffer fish, and his Sphynx cats, Felix and Axel, who now reside with his daughter Jade. The many chameleon looks of Trevor included his ever changing hair and beard styles, piercings, a variety of camouflage colours and patterns, and his viking toque and his camo 'trach cozy'.

Trevor was a huge fan of music, movies, video games and humour. He was known for quoting movies and TV shows. He loved going to see live music whether it was at a bar, a large venue, or outdoor show. He was always up to date with the latest video game consoles and had been celebrating the successful ordering of his newest systems.

A special thank you to all of his personal care workers over the years, they were more than workers, becoming trusted friends. A very heartfelt thank you to Dr Rockman-Greenberg for her involvement throughout Trevor's life.

He was a son, brother, father, and friend to many and will be greatly missed.

A "party" and Celebration of Life was held, complete with his favourite foods and beverages, on Friday, October 1, 2021.
