Family Tree

A limb has fallen from the family tree
I hear a voice that whispers, ‘Grieve not for me’
Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs
The good I lived while I was strong
Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you
Keep on smiling, the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest
Remembering all...how I was truly blessed
Continue traditions, no matter how small
Go on with your lives, don’t stare at the wall
I miss you all dearly so keep up your chin
Until that fine day we’re together again

My fondest early memories of cousin Faye were from when we were young and teen years and during the summer holidays from school she would come to Benito for a week or two to visit often accompanied by brother Don.  She was our beautiful blonde blue eyed cousin, the city mouse would come visit the country mice.  Faye had 2 sets of grandparents in Benito and we would visit with them (look at pictures) plus visit with other relatives.  My sisters and I and Faye would play have fun and we looked forward to her visits.  But most often Faye and I would yak all night and play and walk (she loved walking) and sometimes we would get into mischief.  She was kind, gentle, soft spoken and shy but also quirky and fun.  Sometimes I would go to Winnipeg (so exciting) during the summer as well to Auntie Mary and Uncle Tony's house which I loved to do and they welcomed me with open arms.  Faye would introduce me to the city life and we would of course walk blocks and miles at a time often stopping at cemeteries to look especially at the really old gravestones (a strange but cool hobby of Faye's).  Also visits with relatives.  And no matter how hard she tried, she could not persuade me to like liver sausage, her favorite.  Jump to after high school I moved to Winnipeg for college and work and we would see each other now and then, attended a movie or concert or two and she loved parks.  Attended her wedding where she married her handsome husband Dave.  Then life happened and work, families, etc, prevented us from seeing each other that often.  Then my move to Kelowna 25 years ago.  A few years ago, we heard the heartbreaking news of Faye's diagnosis, decline in health over the years and now sad passing.  Too young.  Rest in peace Faye.  Condolences to family from cousins Pearl, Deb, Gail and Les, and Auntie Katie and Uncle Mike.  I posted a picture of Faye and me in Benito but I don't have any pictures of us when we were young as kids (maybe no cameras?? ).  Sure would like to see some if anyone has any.
