OLGA CHOMOKOVSKI

March 2, 1935 - February 3, 2025

Peacefully, on February 3, 2025, one month shy of her 90th birthday, our Mom, Grandma, and Baba passed away at Lion's PCH, with family at her side, knowing she was loved.

Olga was born in Schorncliff, MB, on March 2, 1935. She was predeceased by her son Rodney and her husband of 60 years, Walter. Left to fondly remember her are her son Ken (Kathy), daughter Charlene Okrainec (Burke), grandchildren Wade, Kayla, and Erin, as well as Gary, Joann, Jennifer, and Holly. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters-in-law Rosemarie, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Olga was born in Schorncliff, MB, and attended school up to grade 9 in a one-room schoolhouse. Growing up on a farm, it was her job to milk the cows. She enjoyed playing baseball and rugby and going to dances on the wooden bridge by her parents' farm. She lived in Gimli, Winnipeg, a farm north of Arborg, Arborg, Lac du Bonnet, and Oakbank. She worked as a nurse's aide at Gimli Hospital and married Walter in 1953, after which they resided in Winnipeg. Olga was a full-time mother who volunteered her time to help others and support her community. She loved to cook and feed people. Her yard was always full of flowers, and she would generously share vegetables from her garden. Olga loved sewing and crafting and won many awards for her beautiful Ukrainian cross-stitch pieces. She and Walter travelled all around Manitoba, to Edmonton, and to the northern United States. They enjoyed casino trips and fishing. Well, Pop liked fishing and just insisted that Olga go. Olga and Walter lived and farmed in the Arborg area until 2011, when they moved to Lac du Bonnet. She was active in the social scene of the Bonavista Lodge, played cards, and listened to lots of live music played by her granddaughter.

Olga was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a Baba, roles she was happy and proud to have. She loved, cared for, encouraged, and protected those who let her. She was strong and resilient, and she handled her dementia with such grace.

Thank you to Lion's PCH Sherbrooke for making Olga's last year full of good food, fun activities, and caring people.

We welcome you to celebrate Olga's life on Sunday, March 2, at 1:30 p.m. at South Transcona Community Club, 124 Borden Street, Winnipeg. Interment will follow in the spring at Okno, MB.

Olga’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
