GERALD "GERRY" CHRISTIE

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gerry Christie on July 18, 2022.

Gerry is survived by his wife Karen; children Eric (Michelle), Dwayne, and Jamie (Stephanie). His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Evan, Brooklyn, Parker, Ashbie, and Argie. Gerry will be deeply missed by his mother Grace; and sisters, Janelle (Neil) and Jo-Anne (Hugh). He was predeceased by his father Alex; and Stepfather Bill. He leaves many relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.

Gerry grew up on a farm in Strathclair, MB and many will remember him for his many years of playing the bagpipes. He loved to tinker with motors and there wasn't a machine he couldn't operate or tear apart and fix. He worked for many years in the coal mines of Alberta and he has left his boys with a deep love for the outdoors camping, fishing, and riding the trails in the mountains of Grande Cache. He had many fond memories working summers for Ganglers Fly In Fishing Lodge. He cherished the many trips walking hand in hand with Karen on the beaches of Punta Cana and touring the open roads of Alberta and BC on their Harley.

In Accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

Gerry's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Dear Karen and family, I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Gerry's passing.  Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your great loss.  Let the treasured memories of Gerry flood over you and give you strength, peace and comfort during these difficult days, and going forward.    Although many years have gone by since I've spoken to or seen Gerry, I do recall the last time was at our Aunt Barrie's funeral at which time we exchanged our contact information.  It was awesome to see Gerry again and to have a chance to visit at the reception. At our annual family reunions, it was great to get together with all the families, and to see and play with our cousins.  When visiting our grandparents home in Strathclair, I remember, as youngsters, Gerry playing with my brother Glennis Knight along with our other cousins who lived close by.   These were special times and great memories.   My mum (Laura) and Uncle Alex were the youngest of seven (7) children, and my mum would share stories of Uncle Alex and her working and playing together on my grandparents farm located just outside of Strathclair.   They were quite close, as their other siblings had left home. Again, Karen, I am so very sorry for your loss.  Please take good care of yourself. God Bless. Gloria Chizick (cousin)

Dear Grace, JoAnne, Janelle and Karen, It brings me sadness to have to send you this message:  The fact is “Death Sucks” and it hurts to lose the ones we love. I haven’t seen Gerry for many years but I have fond memories of him when we were young in Strathclair and as an adult in Edmonton.  Gerry always put a smile on my face and will continue to do so whenever I think of him. I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this.  I love you, I’m thinking about you and I’m praying for you.  Love your friend Louise Lukay

Very sorry to hear of Gerry's passing. My deepest sympathies to Karen. I worked with Gerry at Gangler's and always enjoyed his company. He was soft spoken with a great sense of humor. Everybody at the lodge loved him. His masterpiece was the incredible runway he engineered at the lodge. It truly was amazing. RIP

Deepest condolences from the Gangler family. Gerry was an amazing member of our team for several years, well respected and very well liked. His dry sense humor came in very handy at times. On a serious note, the lifeblood of a Fly-In lodge is its runway. The work Gerry did on our runway left it being one of the best in the North. His skills were incredible and today we land new model large planes on it because of his dedication. When he decided he would finally leave Ganglers and work down south again,  he made it a mission to expand the runway another 1600'. This was no small feat. The area he was going into was mostly swamp and his equipment limited. He went at with a methodical persistence I remember to this day. The results were amazing. After he was done, he told me he was determined he was not going to leave  Ganglers until he had left us with a world-class airstrip. Every time I go down that strip, I think of him and I thank him.  Over the years, we exchanged a couple of random messages but I never saw him again. Thank you Gerry for your dedication and most of all, for your friendship. May the bag pipes ring loudly tonight.
