Bruce Clay
RONALD “BRUCE” CLAY
March 1, 1963 – August 25, 2024
It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our dear brother and uncle Bruce on August 25, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.
Bruce was born on March 1, 1963 in Port Arthur, Ontario and moved with his family to River Heights, Winnipeg shortly after. He lived the remainder of his life in Winnipeg.
He was predeceased by his mother Janet and father Ron. He is survived by his sister Diane Russell, and her husband Ray; nephews, Derek Russell and his wife Jaga; and Steve Russell and his wife Ainslie; and his five great nephews, Drew, Dylan, Levi, Griffin, and Nolan, all of Winnipeg; his brother Bob Clay, and sister-in-law Susan Graham; niece Rachel; nephew, Michael Clay and his wife Shannon; great niece Ava and great nephew Jake, all of Barrie, Ontario.
Bruce was an avid sports fan, always cheering on his home town teams the Blue Bombers and the Jets. He rarely missed listening to them on the radio and always knew where they were in the standings of their respective leagues. He followed them closely and was always aware of the current players and coaches. He was a huge fan and loved to talk all about his home town teams!
Unfortunately as a very young adult Bruce was diagnosed with Schizophrenia but in spite of the immense difficulties that brings, he was always positive, upbeat and carried on. He was resilient, strong, determined and lived each day as it was, always thankful for what he had, never complained. He was a very peaceful, gentle, kind and content person, he learned to suffer well.
He has taught us all so much, he was a very special, loved and important person in our family. He enjoyed our many family gatherings as well as several trips he was able to take with us.
We would like to thank Mary and Michael for being wonderful care providers these last many years. Also want to thank Dr. Willms and staff at the Klinic, as well as Dr. DeRocquigny and staff of the Out Patient Clinic, Victoria Hispital. You all treated Bruce with such kindness, compassion and dignity, he often mentioned how grateful he was for you all.
He will be missed dearly.
A private family gathering is planned.
Bruce’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I remember family times on Christmas Eves in Winnipeg, fun times in the fall at harvest time north of Strathclair, Bruce and the farm dog Toby covering miles looking for waterfowl to shoot (Bruce was in his mid teens) and Bruce's art work of which he was immensely proud. My thoughts are with you Bob and Diane and families.

My memories of Bruce mostly revolve around Christmas celebrations at Oak street. There was ten years between us so as kids we always seemed to behave like he was a nuisance to our play. I remember hugs from him. Not many but all cherished.

Oh wow, so sorry to hear - I remember Brucey, we all called him that, as a very happy kid - I saw him at family gatherings on Oak St. several times a year - he was usually in his jammies and always had a big smile, very active too - I know he struggled in adulthood and we lost track of him - bless you Brucey and rest now, love from your cousin Jan Jones (Laird and family)

Bruce will always be remembered as "Brucey" to me. He was probably around 4-5 years old when we became neighbors and he was a close friend of my little brother David. I remember them racing their tricycles down the street as they enjoyed carefree days of childhood. It brings me joy to think of Brucey as once again living a carefree life, yet there is sorrow realizing he left this earth so young and so quickly. Praying that each member of his family can be comforted in the knowledge that Bruce knew Jesus and is now experiencing eternal life without pain and sorrow.
