MICHAEL CLAYTON

August 16, 1958 – March 27, 2021

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Clayton on March 27, 2021, beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.

Left to cherish Mike’s memory are his wife Maxine; son Brendan; daughter Crystal (David); grandchildren, Alexis and Colten; brothers-in-law, John and Barry (Arlene); brother Ray (Cindy); niece Bonnie (Mike and family); nephew Allan (Michelle and family) as well as his extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Dora, Hugh, and Doris and sister-in-law Beverly.

Mike’s passion was woodworking, everything from house renos to toy boxes. He took meticulous care of his ’65 Parisienne and spent time as the President of the ‘Manitoba Pontiac Association’. Mike loved music and the guitar, only the classics of course. He loved to cook, always trying a new sauce, spice, or rub. He enjoyed all sports, playing hockey, watching his grandkids, and cheering on the Canadiens. Always rooting for the Chiefs and Roughriders on the field. Mike enjoyed fishing trips with the boys, and he and Maxine looked forward to winter holidays in Mexico with family and friends.

In 1987 Mike began working for the City of Winnipeg as a building inspector. With his last few years before retirement as Chief of Existing Buildings. It was here that he made lifelong friendships with great co-workers.

Mike was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy disease in 2014. Although there was no cure, he was determined to live life to the fullest, and remained incredibly positive.

The family would like to thank the 5W Lodge nurses and staff, Andrea, Sandra and Dr. Stasiuk at Deer Lodge for their care and compassion.

In accordance with Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date when we can all gather safely together. Until then, raise a glass and remember what a wonderful person Mike is. Cheers! In the meantime, Mike’s family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

I met Mike when I started with PP&D, he quickly became my pool doubles partner!  He was a true friend, he was kind enough to build me a bed frame so I can lay in bed and watch the lights at night and the sunrise in the morning.  He will be missed by many and I am so blessed to have met him.  Big hugs to Maxine and family!

I worked with Mike for the 11 years that I was with Building Inspections. He was the first one to greet me on the day I started there. Mike was great to work with, always ready with his quick wit and had the best handwriting/printing ever. My husband played baseball with Parks & Rec and Mike played for Planning. Many fond memories, and this is a great video tribute & song to honour Mike. Condolences & hugs to Maxine & the family. from Darlene & Ron Overby

When 1st meeting Mike I recall the smiling face as he and Maxine unlocked their door across the hall This led to many chats, happy hours with laughter and of course snacks that my sister Sandra and I shared with Mike and Maxine. We will never forget  “WHATEVER” (always with a smile). Bottoms up Mike!  👍 Sandra &Meg

I met Mike in the late 90's at Caddy Lake guys weekend.  Such a nice guy we just hit it off famously.  We had mutual interests in music and carpentry in which he was an ace. Curling memories on and off ice. Condolences to Maxine and family and thanks for such a wonderful video tribute with an amazingly fitting soundtrack. Rob Hignell

Met Mike and Maxine through my husband, and we became fast friends. From our great times with the Pontiac Assoc to beer sampling on the deck, we had some great times together.  Although we can never understand the why, Mike made us all take life by the horns and live it! Thank you for all your years of friendship and keep driving the '65 ❤

I met Mike some 20 years ago when I curled with the Metro Curling League at the ole Grain Exchange Curling Club.   It was a fun  time and Mike was always great, friendly and courteous.  I also was lucky to have spent almost 20 Super Bowls with Mike and friends, at Brent's place.  Not only was the food great, but Mike was always full of smiles and laugher.  He was one of the nicest guys I have ever known.  It was a sad day when I first learned of Mike's illness.  We miss you and our condolences go out to Maxine and family.   Barry & Coleen Smitke

So sad to hear of Mike's passing and heartfelt condolences to Maxine and family. Always remember his genuine love for people and his involvement in the local car community, through the Manitoba Pontiac Club. Who could forget his iconic whitewall tired red Parisienne convertible. Rest easy Mike.

Sincere condolences to Maxine and family. Working in By Law Enforcement Mike would sit at my desk every couple of days and go over some properties with me. We always went off task and ended talking about sports. We would go over our hockey pools and tease each other about players or teams we loved or loathed. RIP my dear friend, gone way too soon💔

Mike and I spent many wonderful days at our cottage in Ontario. Mike's carpentry skills are still greatly appreciated. Mike loved to boat and fish. He became an active member of our annual Clubted Fishing Derby. Thank you Mike for all the great memories.  Ted
