DENNIS CHARLES COLES
March 23, 1943 - January 5, 2025
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my brother Dennis at his lifelong home in Winnipeg. His journey was not without struggles due to an Autistic Spectrum disorder that was not diagnosed until late in life. Nevertheless, he showed immense talent in drafting, carpentry and cabinet making. In all three areas his work was meticulous and showed a creative flair.
Dennis attended Weston Elementary, Cecil Rhodes Junior High and Tec Voc High School. Subsequently, he graduated from Red River CC with a diploma in Architectural Drafting. He pursued this line of work for 20 years until his employer re-located to Edmonton.
Dennis cared for our mother until her death in 2002 and continued to live in our family home until his passing.
His happiest times were the summers he spent at the family cottage on West Hawk Lake.
Dennis’ carpentry skills allowed him to construct special projects for himself, extended family and friends. My favorite was the outdoor shower with attached Cedar sauna. Dennis loved to build things for others and I suspect that it was his way of connecting with people.
In addition to his brother Ron (Barbara); Dennis is survived by his nephew Rob in Montreal; and niece Melanie in Edmonton; as well as numerous cousins.
I will always remember the good times and our last phone conversation at Christmas.
Rest in peace, Dennis.
There will be no funeral services at this time.
Dennis’ family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

It is with great sadness to learn the passing of Dennis Cole.
A real person who truly knew himself and what was important in his life.
Dennis was quite intrumental in helping our family in building projects with our island cottage.

- Dennis was a quiet and gentle man. I lived a block away and many years ago we spoke as he walked his dog down the back lane of Alexander avenue behind my parents house. I moved away and hadn't seen him again until around 10 or so years ago. I was in the old neighbourhood and I saw Dennis in his backyard. We talked and it was clearly apparent that he loved working on the family home. It looked to be a constant work in progress. He invited me in to see his basement shop and some of things he made. Ron is right. Dennis had a strong creative sense and the technical skill to do beautiful work. He was humble about his talent but clearly proud of his accomplishments. It was a pleasure to know him and I'm sure everyone who knew him will miss him deeply.
