PATRICK JAMES COOK

October 29, 1951 – January 4, 2026

Patrick James Cook passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on October 29, 1951, in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Pat shared over 52 years of marriage with his beloved wife Hedi, and together they raised their son James, of whom he was deeply proud. Pat’s joy grew even greater when he became a grandfather last year.

Pat was a proud member of the Steelworkers and built many lasting friendships throughout his working years.

An avid traveller, he enjoyed exploring the world, with South America, Puerto Vallarta, and Greece holding special places in his heart. A loyal Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan, he never missed a game and loved attending Grey Cups. Above all, Pat’s true passion was cooking, regularly hosting friends and family to enjoy one of his many great meals.

Pat is survived by his wife, Hedi (Vandenberg) Cook; his son James Cook (Julia Sisler); his cherished granddaughter June Cook; many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews; and many very dear friends.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Big hugs to Hedi, James, Julia and June. Pat was a life long friend. He was the most generous, loving and caring person I have ever known. Pat and Hedi's house was always open to gather for a meal and a catch up. They had the BEST dinners and themed parties ever! Pat absolutely adored Hedi, James, Julia and June! If you had an ear he would fill it with stories about what there were up to, their accomplishments and their lives. Pat will be missed by all who had the privilege to have him in their lives. I know he would want me to add this one statement "You say PAT and we say PARTY"! Pat you may be gone but you will never be forgotten. We miss you and we love you, Susan, Larry, Carly, Graeme, Madisson, Jason and Noah xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Pat was definitely a force to be reckoned with and he did do it his way...a grocery store might recall finding a fist squeezed pacakge of cheese left behind (too expensive) or selling a whole card of saffron vials (extremely inexpensive- priced wrong - "start the car")...Leap Year parties were legendary and celebrated ON THE DAY and not held over to the closest weekend....roasted pig, backyard party tents, deck parties, wine, rum and tee up over the river...wine group gatherings and fatantastic dinners. Pat told great stories and hosted many more. He will be missed by all who knew him and welcomed by those who left before him.

Pat was certainly a unique individual. He had so many stories and knew a lot about many different things. When we were fortunate enough to join their group, Pat always went out of his way to make us feel welcome. We enjoyed our visits and will miss his smile. He was a good friend.
