NORM(AN) EDWARD COOLEY

July 9, 1959 - November 3, 2022

After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness and so much love that we announce Norm’s peaceful passing at Riverview Health Centre.

Norm is lovingly remembered/survived by his wife and soulmate of 34 years Lee-Ann, children Ryan (Lisa), Eric (Katelyn), Kaitlin (AKA Katie), fur babies Diego and Yeti and grand fur babies Mello and Luna; siblings Pat (Bill), Jim (Val), Pam, Tom, Richard (Paulette), Wendy (Gerry), Debbie (Bruce), Linda, and Brenda (Garth); Numerous nieces and nephews, extended family including his Netley crew, and many dear lifelong friends. Norm is predeceased by his parents James and Susan Cooley, siblings Willie and Bob, and brother-in-law Grant.

Born on July 9, 1959 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Norm moved to Winnipeg with his parents and siblings as a child. After graduating from St. John’s High School, Norm worked various jobs before starting his successful business, Quality Clutch & Brake, in 1992.

Throughout his life, Norm had countless fur babies aka “little buddies,” as he called them. Lucky, Chevy, KC, Birdy, and Archie anxiously await him in Heaven for their morning walks and treats.

Norm, or “Popski” as his children affectionately called him, was an avid collector of all things, from cars to board games, much to his family’s…amusement.

Spending his summers at Netley Creek with family and friends, countless days were spent fishing and endless nights were spent Belgian bowling, playing washers, sitting around the fire and visiting the Petersfield Hotel to play VLTs.

Norm had a way of making everyone feel welcome and included. Truly, to know him was to love him.

Special thanks to nurse Tamara, Drs. Andrew Maksymiuk,    Dr. Bashir and treatment room nurses at CancerCare Manitoba. We would also like to thank the medical team on 3 East at Riverview Health Center for making his final journey a peaceful one.

In true Stormin’ Norman fashion, a non-traditional celebration of life will be held at the Rivercrest Inn (4200 Main Street, West St. Paul) on Thursday, November 24th 2022 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. As per Norms request there will be no speeches. Please come and raise a glass for norm, and share stories and warm memories.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue.

WE WILL LOVE AND MISS YOU FOREVER!

Norm was a wonderful man.  My family spent many years at Netley Creek with him and his family.  He always had a smile on his face and was so kind. He was often seen walking his fur babies.   Kids flocked to him, including my 2 nephews because he took a real interest in them.  Even with his illness, he was still upbeat and was so genuinely personable.  He’d always ask us how we were doing.  My sincere condolences go out to Lee-Ann and her children as they grieve at this difficult time.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  Norm you will be so very missed. R.I.P.

There's no words to express the sorrow I feel for all of you (Lee-Ann, Katie, Ryan, Lisa, Eric & Katelyn). I think you know how much our family loved Norm. He made us feel like family & we felt the same way about him. I will forever remember him as a great friend & family man, who was humble, kind, generous, thoughtful, witty & so much more to so many. I'm sure there was a special place for him in heaven ❤

Norm was a great hockey- at every practice and game supporting his children. He was quiet with a quick wit! When you least expected it he would make a comment leading to a chorus of laughs. My heart felt feelings for Lee Ann and the children.

I was so saddened to hear the news about Norm. I've known Norm for almost 50 years. We lived close to each other in the old neighbourhood and also went to St. John's High School together. We had lots of laughs and talked about cars a lot. He helped me with car parts many times and in getting those parts it was always a good reason to see good old Norm. He was a great guy! My sincere condolences to his family.

Condolences to the family. Norm was a good man. I was lucky to get to spend time with family, friends and fur babies at Netley a few times over the years with his crew of family and friends. This group is more like family especially to my son Dylan. The generosity and carrying you showed us Norm I will never forget as well as the nice chats and laughs we had at the Creek with cold beer's in hand while walking the dogs. I was happy to find a couple pic's of you walking Jersey at the creek and on the boat fishing with the boys. Gone too soon, as the good one usually are but will never be forgotten. (((Jersey hugs))) Motley too

I was privileged to know Norm and have so many fond memories of our Netley Creek days. He was always so good to my boys and myself and genuinely took an interest in all those he cared for. I am so truly sorry for the families tremendous loss and for everyone’s loss who had the privilege of having him in their lives and loving him. He will be tremendously missed.

I Wasn't sure how to write this because  I had lost some touch with you the past couple of years but that def doesn't change what I feel below. Memories never fade  Yesterday we said  goodbye to a absolutely fantastic man/uncle/human.  R.I.P uncle Norm  There are so many things growing up that bring so many great memories and the way you made all of us nieces and nephews laugh all the time no matter the situation. Every family get together there was never a dull moment.  Whether you were making me walk like a duck through nana's kitchen in front of everyone because I lost at duck hunt, or blaring pink Floyd(another brick in the wall) screaming "hey teacher, leave those kids alone in your classic truck on our way to video 1001 or Olympic billard to play video games(wrestlefest) Or making all the nieces and nephews toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with crust cut off in triangles, right after we had eaten supper because we asked.  Even though we were so full from either chop suey or Mac and apples we still devoured that toast and proclaimed it was the best thing we had ever eaten.  I am thinking now it was because of who made it that it was the best.   Driving us home after family dinners even though our parents were going home anyways, just so we could be with you in your truck knowing that it would be a absolutely fun ride. I can guarantee you I have learned alot of my humor from you...most of my jokes consist of some sort of fart joke that both of my kids still laugh at,  and I def know that i learned some parenting skills from you.   The way you put not only your family, but the entire family first is something I will always carry with me and hope that it reflects onto my kids.  I can remember bringing boxes of ice cream to the shop for you and Scott, and sat while we ate magnum ice cream and laughed at something that had happened that day or the fact the the freezer was full.of ice cream. Didn't matter what it was, I always left feeling a little happier  I am sad that you are gone but happy you are not suffering anymore. Here's hoping you are having double martinis and chocolate fountains  with uncle Grant and have a microphone in hand that the DJ is asking for  back singing Either "must be the money"or "new Orleans is sinking" I had my hands in the river, my feet back up on the banks Looked up to the Lord above and said, "Hey, man thanks" Sometimes I feel so good, I gotta scream She said, "Gordie baby, I know exactly what you mean" She said, she said I swear to God she said You will be missed by all but I know your legacy lives through Ryan, Eric, Katy and all of your nieces and nephews that you have given a little of your personality to all and that makes us all  better in life ....period.  And that can never be taken  Love you uncle Norm.  Will never forget
