SHARY LEE CORMIER
(née KOVACH)
March 13, 1964 - January 07, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Shary Lee Cormier on January 07, 2025 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg at 60 years old. Born in Calgary, Alberta, on Friday March 13, 1964, Shary lived a life filled with love, strength, and a deep connection to nature and her Indigenous heritage.
Shary is survived by her daughters, Sheena and Leanne (Stephen); her sisters, Cindy and Jody; father, John (Betty) and her half brother Joey. She will also be dearly missed by her extended family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Shary was predeceased by her mother, Yvonne and her sister Mary.
Shary moved to Winnipeg where she raised her two remarkable daughters who kept her on her toes - often making her question why she ever taught them to talk back. After relocating to Selkirk in 1997, she embraced her independence and rediscovered her passions. A proud and spiritual Métis-Cree woman, Shary found solace in her heritage and the teachings of her ancestors.
Shary's love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for fishing, no matter the temperature. Whether casting a line or simply sitting by the water, she found peace and fulfilment in nature's embrace. Her love for the wilderness was matched only by her strong and loving spirit. If reincarnation exists, Shary is probably up there debating with a grizzly bear over who deserves the best fishing spot.
Shary deeply admired all animals, honouring the wisdom of eagles, the strength of grizzly bears, and the sacred teachings each creature offers in the interconnected circle of life. This respect for wildlife reflected her gentle yet fierce spirit. Shary always had animals in the house and passed her love for animals to her daughters and lovingly referred to her daughter's cats as her "furry grands". Over the years, Shary would often rescue any animal in need and would bring home many strays in need of a loving home.
Shary was so proud of her two daughters and would often brag about their achievements anytime she had the chance. She loved to watch Leanne's softball games with her sister Cindy and cheer loudly from the sidelines. Shary was also thrilled to see her daughter, Sheena, graduate in Vancouver in 2019. Her joy for life extended beyond her family, as she found immense happiness in the simple things in life that made her smile glow with joy. Shary's timeless love for classic cars brought her equal delight, whether she was shining brightly at Sunday Night Cruise Night, enjoying car shows, or simply watching cool classics drive by. She truly had a heart as classic and enduring as the cars she adored.
Known for her stubborn determination, Shary faced life’s challenges with grit and unwavering resolve. She stood by her principles and was never afraid to fight for what she believed in. Even when life knocked her down, she got up again, sometimes with a laugh and a clever remark about "showing life who's boss". Even with her struggles, her smile brought warmth to those around her.
Shary will forever remain in our hearts as a gentle soul who found beauty in the world around her. May her spirit find eternal peace in the lands she so deeply loved.
"See you later, Alligator."
In Accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private informal Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, consider making contributions in Shary’s memory to any animal shelter or wildlife charity.
Shary’s family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Your Mom's smile and laugh was infectious. I loved to hear her comments about what Kirsty and Leanne were up to When picking up or dropping off. She loved her girls that's for sure. I know you will miss her deeply.

Rest in peace Shary ❤️ Shary was such an inspiration to everyone she worked with. I worked with her at Rosanne's, her smile, her laughter was so contagious, she lifted my spirits every time she walked into the door. Her love of animals and wildlife, and especially her daughters, how she talked about them was truly love. I'm devastated by her passing, the earth has lost an angel. Love you Shary ❤️❤️❤️

I am Shary's first cousin. All of the sisters and I and my sister looked forward to family gatherings at campgrounds when we were kids. We had so much fun. We reconnected years ago through Facebook. It was so nice getting to know her again and I really admired her love of nature and fishing. She had such joy on her face. Her smile was so bright! Her tribute is beautiful and I miss her already. 💔

Shary was my 1st cousin, who I had just recently got in contact with. She is my dad's sisters daughter. 🥺 She last messaged me when she saw my posts with my daughters pics from the first fish she caught. I told her that her lil cousin wanted to be like her, because I had told her that her cousin Shary is a Fisher woman. I am shocked to wake up to this. I am also saddened that we never met in person. Sending prayers of Strength and Comfort to her Daughters and family and friends. Rest in peace You will be missed.
