DIANE MARIE COX
December 5, 1950 – May 15, 2026
It is with profound sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of our beloved Diane Marie Cox - devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, sister-in-law, cherished friend, and caregiver.
Diane quietly passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 75. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff in the ICU at Grace Hospital for the compassion and care they showed Diane, and for keeping her comfortable during her final days. A very special thank you goes to Nurse Nicole, who quickly became not only Diane’s caregiver, but also her friend.
Diane was born on December 5, 1950, in Fort Frances, Ontario, to Marie and Herb Smith. She grew up in Fort Frances alongside her older brother Gary and younger sisters Geraldine, Linda, and Judy.
Diane was known for the genuine love and care she showed to everyone around her. She had a rare gift for making people feel comfortable and welcome - even if they had only just met her. She treasured the simple joys in life, especially dinners, tea breaks, laughter, and time spent with her dear friends: Pat, Nancy, Mary, Maureen, Delores, Carol Ann, Peggy, and Eileen.
Her deep compassion and caring nature led her to a career as a healthcare aide, where she spent many years caring for seniors in Winnipeg, including at Rosewood. Through her work, Diane formed many lasting friendships with both residents and coworkers whose lives were brighter because of her kindness.
Above all else, Diane found her greatest joy in her family, especially her two wonderful grandsons, whom she loved deeply and was endlessly proud of.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 46 years, Mark; her father-in-law Jim; her son Corey (Lesley); her daughter Melissa (Bill); her grandsons Ethan and Dalton (Lexie); her sister Geraldine; her sisters-in-law Sera (George) and Donna (Allan); and her brother-in-law Kerry (Liana). Diane also shared a special bond with her many nieces and nephews and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.
She was predeceased by her parents, Marie and Herb; her brother Gary; and her beloved “Mom,” Lucille.
Diane leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and kindness. She was always the first to help - whether it was preparing a meal, offering support during difficult times, holding a hand, or simply sitting quietly to listen. Her warmth touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at St. Vital Knights Villa, 537A St. Anne’s Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
A small family graveside service will be held on June 2 in MacGregor, where Diane will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Diane’s memory.
Rest easy, Diane,
until we meet again.
You are so very loved.
