ROBERT "BOB" WADE CSUZDI

January 26, 1962 - July 6, 2022

Robert Csuzdi was born at Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 26, 1962. He was the youngest of six children born to Paul and Vy Csuzdi. He died at HSC on Wednesday July 6, 2022 surrounded by Rhonda his wife of 24 years and his sister Carol. Bob is predeceased by his father, Paul, his mother, Vy, and his brother, Rex. He is survived by his four siblings, Carol, Brent, Warner and Ray.

At birth Bob was diagnosed with a rare blood condition called Diamond Black Fan Anemia. Throughout his life, he depended on blood transfusions and medications. Despite navigating lifelong health issues, Bob was in a car accident in early January 2022 that resulted in the rapid deterioration of his health. In his last months at HSC, he was a scientific puzzle, as the doctors tried to figure out what was causing his new symptoms. Having lived a full 60 years with his diagnosis was a true blessing. He lived a very full life surrounded by family and friends.

As a youngster, Bob’s family resided on Kildonan Drive in East Kildonan. Across from the family home was Fraser's Grove Park and Bob loved to play there. He loved all things outdoors - riding his bike with the family dog, Zsa Zsa, running along beside him, playing baseball, tobogganing and skating in winter.

Summers were spent at Dad's timber camp at Wade, Ontario. The kids would be loaded into the back of the family station wagon, along with a bag of cold toast and bacon, to make the trip.  Here there were rock cuts to climb, ponds and hills to explore, lakes to swim in and fun machines to run.

Bob loved all sports. His favourites included hockey, baseball and badminton and he was awarded many trophies. As an adult, Bob took up golf and also joined a bowling league where he met Rhonda. It was there they became a couple. Bob was quite competitive and rather proud of this sporting skills but was always a good sport when he lost. Bob also loved darts, and was rarely bested when playing with his buddies.  Watching sports on TV in the garage was something he did often, along with cocktails, ‘tunes” and the company of friends and family. Having potluck meals and bonfires were some of his favourite things to do.

Bob married Rhonda in April 1998 and became a stepfather to Bill and Heather. The four of them spent many holidays at Bob’s parents’ cabin at Lac Lu, Ontario. Bob and Rhonda indulged their shared love of music and attended many live concerts at the Lac Lu Door Factory. They both enjoyed listening to many live bands but especially his brother Rex’s band “Big Boogaloo”. Rhonda indulged her personal love of music by playing in the Journey Band at St. Mary’s Road United Church. Bob supported Rhonda’s passion for music by gifting many percussion instruments to her as well as building her a Percussion box and sticks for the band’s usage.  He supported Rhonda at the Church with his carpentry skills so she could decorate for themed events.

Robert was always creative. He was a woodworker, a painter, and a collector of dragons. He painted a large mural on the Lac Lu cabin and paintings of dragons on their utility trailer and on their garage at home where a large painted dragon continues to reside. Rhonda’s family property at Glenella was another favourite camping spot for weekends out of the city where Robert enjoyed creating a rustic but comfortable camp area for their family. At the camp, Bob made hand-painted wooden game boards of Snakes & Ladders and Checkers for all to enjoy. Bob was also a proud Grandpa and loved to play with the kids when they were young. He would join them climbing on play structures and also made dress-up cupboards and cradles for them to play with.

Together, Bob and Rhonda established a successful home cleaning business for 22 years. After his car accident in January, Bob was no longer able to continue in the business and it remains on hiatus at this time.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the doctors and nurses at HSC who worked tirelessly to care for Bob. We are forever grateful for the care you have shown to our family.

A service of remembrance for Bob will be held August 6th at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Road United Church located at 613 St. Mary’s Road with Reverend Phil Read officiating. If attending, Masks are required to be worn. Donations in remembrance can be made to Cancer Care at HSC by clicking here.

Bob’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Sorry of your loss Rhonda, you were a very good soulmate for our friend Bob. Growing up together we have lots of great times but as life would have it went our separate ways. Robert talked about Bob “kicking our ass” at pool but this also included golf, tennis and badminton. Thankfully we played on the same team for hockey.  We all lost with Bob’s passing. Take care Rhonda. Dave Wills

I can remember a lot of the things that Bob made for the Flying Camel and for decorating the sanctuaries during the different seasons. He was a very talented person. My prayers and thoughts go out to yours and Bob’s families Rhonda!

Thanks Ronda and Family for being the best thing in my friends life and such a great host to me when I came over. Now I must be  knock knock-knocking on Heavens door to ask “can Bob come out and play “ And Boy oh Boy did we play! So many of life’s adventures and experiences we enjoyed with friends, not to mention kicking everyone Ass at the Pool table at Tavern or pool hall  Bob would say “you just took your last shot” and then run the table . Yup he was our Partner allright  and will be missed. I Pray that God will guide Bob in his journey just like he guided him to meet you Ronda. Thank you for being you. Maybe Bob can get us a tee off time on the other side. Respectfully  Rob Kraychuk

Seeing I will not be able to attend Bob’s Celebration of Life service (I will be in Montreal visiting my daughter Monique at that time) I want to express my most sincere condoleances to Bob’s immediate family , Rhonda, Bill and Heather as well as Bob’s brothers and sister Carol, Ray, Warner and Brent. I would have very much liked to be there to reconnect with cousins I have not seen in a very long time.   I remember Bob mostly because he was so attentive to my mother Goldie offering to drive her to visit his mom as often as it was possible. I was totally impressed with the video that was shared online and I wish to thank whoever it was that took the time to prepare it for the wonderful tribute to Bob’s life.   It also came to my mind that it would be a great idea to organize a Csuzdi family reunion in whatever form or fashion so as to allow us to come together once again celebrate our common identity.

Bob was a teammate and a great source of joy and smiles to all of like Ernie, Rob, Dave and Malcom who had the honour of knowing him.  the world is a sadder olace without the man who he became and the kid who defied science to get there! he will be missed though we lost touch far too long ago, the impression he made still lingers...

Bob and I were good friends from Grade 1 all the way to up Grade 12.  Although I moved away, we did keep in touch. There was a pack of four: Bob, Robert, Dave and myself (picture).  We shared many special (crazy) memories as we grew up.  I did have the opportunity to meet Bob’s wife Rhonda and I could clearly see the two of them loved and respected each other. Bob’s “eyes lit” up when his grandkids entered the room.  My condolences to Rhonda and family. The world is a lessor place without Bob. Ernest Reason
