VICTORIA CUDMORE

(née Kowaluk)

February 22, 1941 – February 23, 2021

With both her daughters by her side, Vikki passed away peacefully on February 23, 2021 in the St Boniface Hospital.

80 years plus a day, classy, yet she loved to laugh and enjoy silly moments, her greatest joy and treasured life achievement was her family.

She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Caroline (Sean) and Leslie (Patrick); grandchildren, Wyatt, Evan, Em, CJ, and Alex; sister Dorena; brother-in-law Alfonso; as well as cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and close friends. She was predeceased by her infant son Bradley; both her parents; sisters, Mary and Annie; brother-in-law Peter; and nieces Christina and Sandy. It gives us peace to know they are all now reunited.

Vikki was born and raised in Winnipeg’s North End and was proud of her Ukrainian roots. The prized possession of the family perogy recipe will continue to be passed on to the next generation.

Raised in a family of four girls, she reminded everyone of her status as the youngest. Her lifelong bond to her three sisters is something she stressed the importance of and instilled in her own daughters.

Everyone knew that her favorite title was “Baba” and her face would light up every time she talked about her Grandchildren. She jumped at any opportunity to be with them, and never once turned down the chance to babysit. In their younger years she played games and created fun for them, and as they got older, she hung on every word of the conversations they shared with unwavering genuine interest.

Looking back, she was the exact same way as a Mom to us. She was a proud stay at home Mom. Because she never drove, she biked everywhere with us, and continued to bike well into her senior years. With gratitude, we remember how nothing was ever too much trouble for her when we came up with our wild ideas or wacky adventures.  It is incredible how she tirelessly fostered our creative spirit and always invited all the neighbourhood kids to share in our shenanigans.

Mom was fiercely independent with a sharp mind and strong memory. She loved working with numbers and once we were older, she spent many years working in payroll and banking. Throughout her life she always remained keen to learn new things and just absolutely loved to keep us all informed of the latest news, stories, and current events.

Mom never once forgot an important date like a birthday, anniversary, or special event. It was particularly important to her that those she loved knew that she remembered and cherished them. She enjoyed spending time to find the perfect heartfelt gift, card, or make a surprise batch of their favourite homemade cookies. Her generous spirit will live on in the hearts of many and will never be forgotten.

Our Mom always believed in God, and she continued to pursue him in prayer no matter what life threw at her. Her enduring faithfulness was a gift to witness.

What will it be like when my pain is gone
And all the worries of this world just fade away
What will it be like when You call my name
In that moment when I see You face to face
I'm waiting my whole life to hear You say
Well done my good and faithful one
My beloved child
You have run the race and now you're home
Welcome to the place where you belong
Well Done

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her trusted doctors, Dr. Uwabor and Dr. Rabson, and the dedicated compassionate staff at St Boniface General Hospital who cared for her during her final months.

Cremation has taken place and she will be interred in The Garden of the Good Samaritan in Chapel Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Due to these challenging times which prevent us from gathering, a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

In the meantime, Vikki’s family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

This is a gorgeous tribute. Thank you for sharing. I will always fondly remember Vicky as a bubbly, strong, fun, welcoming, lovely, classy lady and wonderful Mother to her two beautiful (inside and out), intelligent, daughters (my dear friends) Caroline and Leslie. I felt blessed to be in their home nearly every weekend and holiday. She doted on us as well as all of the other friends and loved ones who visited. She lived a path of virtue which blessed us all. I do believe she is at peace in a place as special as her. My condolences to Caroline, Leslie and her family and friends. She will be with you all in heart, mind and soul, always, until you meet again. With love and respect, Ann, Christian and Aleeah xoxox❤❤❤

As a newly wed and a new mother I always remember how nice she was to me. That was fifty years ago. A very special person!

As the mother of my daughter’s best friend,  I met Victoria on a number of occasions. She was such a warm and lovely person. Her two daughters (Caroline and Leslie) are a testament to her powers of motherhood. Victoria was on a mission to guide her girls into a life to be proud of, and that mission was accomplished in spades. May she Rest In Peace.

What a beautiful tribute💕I have somany incredible memories of your Mom! One that stands out is her taking us to church when we were young, she was always so easy to share that beautiful smile.  My very favourite memory, when she came to our first home and blessed it for us.  The cross she gave us still hangs in the same spot from the day she placed it there.  Her spirit of joy and grace lives on in you both and in all of her grandchildren, and I am better  for knowing her💕 Well done is right 🙏🏻

I had the pleasure of delivering Avon to this lovely lady for the last several years. She always spoke of her children and grandchildren with love. Such a cheery personality and she will be missed greatly.

A beautiful picture has been drawn of someone who loved deeply.  Despite not meeting Vikki, after watching the video and reading her obituary, you can feel the love she gave to each of you.  It is awesome when we live our lives this way.  Our hearts are very sad for your loss, but peaceful knowing she is in heaven.  Big hugs and lots of love to Leslie, Patrick and all your family.  We are here for you always.❤ Tom, Anne Marie and Family

I met Vicky 1955 and we became good friends ( doing goofy things that teeny-boppers did) When I got married in 1970 she was my bridesmaid also Godmother to our son. She was a very compassionate person person with a heart of gold. Never forgetting special occasions, always talking about her daughters and her grandchildren who were the world to her. She faced every obstacle in life (good or bad) never complaining. I will miss her laugh, wisdom and friendship. Rest in peace my friend

I had the pleasure of working with Vikki at Cuets in 2003.  She always had a smile and was always ready to help when it was needed. RIP Vikki.
